Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Set focus to specific control in Ajax CallBack

    The nature of Ajax callback functions is that they are written in xbasic to run serverside. They can return a string containing Javascript that will be interpreted by the browser so that is where you put a call to a javascript function you created or just a simple javascript statement.

    To set focus to an input control first get the id of that control then use focus() :

    Code:
    document.getElementById("id of your control").focus();
    You can replace document.getElementById by $ in Alpha but beware if you use jQuery then you have to take precautions to not mixup with jQuery's $ (see the doc)

      Re: Set focus to specific control in Ajax CallBack

      Just to clarify a little bit... it's not really jQuery and javascript shorthand that we must be careful not to bump into. The "$" object is actually owned by Alpha (and not just Alpha, but by many applications out there). The use of $ as shorthand for document.getElementById as in

      Code:
      $("id of your control").focus();
      will be not be interfered with by Alpha or by jQuery. Rather the $ alias that jQuery uses is not allowed. So it's a jQuery/Alpha thing.

      If you use jQuery you must "redefine"..."remap", whatever the correct term is, the alias that jQuery normally uses... which is "$". If you don't then Alpha will think the jQuery libraries belong to Alpha and that just won't work.

      So, you use jQuery.noconflict() and then anywhere you'd normally call a jQuery function as $.functionName, you now use jQuery.functionName, and everyone is happy.

      From Alpha...
      When you load jQuery in this way, the jQuery.noconflict() command is automatically run. This means that if you want to use jQuery in your own Javascript, you must refer to the jQuery object using 'jQuery' and not '$'. The '$' object is owned by Alpha Five.
      From jQuery...
      Many JavaScript libraries use $ as a function or variable name, just as jQuery does. In jQuery's case, $ is just an alias for jQuery, so all functionality is available without using $. If you need to use another JavaScript library alongside jQuery, return control of $ back to the other library with a call to $.noConflict(). Old references of $ are saved during jQuery initialization; noConflict() simply restores them.

        Well, it doesn't work...I have the following in my Ajax callback

        Code:
        CheckCustID =<<%str%
        document.getElementById("Contact").focus();
        %str%
        where CheckCustID is the name of my ajax callback i want to set it to this value upon success so it sets the focus to the proper control. The control's variable name is Contact.

        Tried with the $ as well got also weird javascript errors...

          You don't have to / should not use a longstring for the return statement. Use this:

          CheckCustID = "document.getElementById('Contact').focus();"
