Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

NEED HELP!!!!! AlphaFour V6 Disks mistakenly thrown away!! Need Replacements!

    Hi!
My name is Bill Wagoner. I have used, upgraded, beta-tested Alpha Four from V2 - V6. I developed many applications for commercial use as a part-time consultant.
Somehow during a home renovation in 2010, all of my A4 disks were thrown out - apparently the box they were in was mistakenly grabbed

AnywayI know that A4V6 is no longer availablebutI am desperateI would gladly pay for disks for V6 that were no longer used by the original owner.
Do you folks have any available? I really miss my software!!!

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Sincerely

    Bill Wagoner

        Hi Robert,

I've got some of the AlphaFour V6 disks and books at my old office. I just moved and did not bring them with me. I purchased 4 sets of books and 4 licenses a long time ago. I have no need for them. I'm not sure how many disks and books I can lay my hands on right now. Do you want what I have?

Wow, that was fast......for a fairly dead forum. I have my original books for v6 so I do not need them, but at least one set of disks or a zip of the files on them would be great as I am only running one stand alone database these days. I have been trying to run in a dosbox with v7 was having problems printing typeset and thought that v6 might work better as it is straight dos based. I hate to leave alpha behind and am too old to learn MySQL or any of the frameworks to run it. I've tried. Even bought alpha5 years ago, just couldn't get into it. Let me know what you need from me

Give me a couple of days to get my hands on the disks. I'll see if I can find a 3 1/4 floppy drive to read them and copy them, maybe to a zip file I can email to you. Like I said, I just moved and I'm very busy setting up my new office.

I just retired about 6 months ago & still trying to find the discs. I know, it’s only been 9 years. I’m cleaning out my clutter & I found some version 3 & 4 literature, but still looking for discs. I got a feeling I will find them eventually. Sorry about the delay.

Guys, if you still need it. I can send you a download link for Alpha 4 V8 (network addition) installation file.
It should be backwards compatible with any Alpha4V6 applications.
If needed, email me to <personal info removed> because I do not check this forum often.
