Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: A5W Page error

You need to open the component and re-save it. You may also have to edit some of the lookups and other wizards and re-save. Once you do this it will work.

        Re: A5W Page error

I'm having the same problem. I try to create a new blank A5W page (or HTML page) and get that error, I click OK and the page comes up but there is no way to save it, no way to add a component to it etc. If I type something int the WYSIWYG it types in but...can't save it.

        Anybody?

          Re: A5W Page error

Are any of you using Windows 8.1 and/or Internet Explorer 11? If so, V11 fails in that environment because of an incompatibility.

Hi Yes its IE 11 that is the problem, i have spoken to support at Alpha and they confirm this. not sure you can roll back IE 11 and there is no compatibilty mode now. the solution is to upgrade to Alpha Anywhere!

              Re: A5W Page error

Just to be clear, the error Mark posted at the beginning should not be related to the ie11 incompatibility (it relates to upgrading to a new patch - you need to effectively rebuild/resave every component to ensure compatibility with the new build). If you get this type of error, just close and restart A5v11 developer.

If you are running Win8.1, then you will have the ie11 problem. Cheapest solution is to buy a <$300 laptop for development purposes.

Nope, using Win 7, IE10. Seems to be a mute point now though because it has, for some unknown reason, started to work again.

                  Re: A5W Page error

if only it was as simple as this. i have at last manged to AW5 pages to open AND save them however they remain uneditable and it is not possible to add components it gives another error about a deleted place holder.

Not sure what to do about this one other than to say its dissapointing!

                    Re: A5W Page error

You could experiment on a BACKUP copy of your project (make lots of these).

A bit of trial and error may show up something.
So, delete all components, and save.
Create a new component and live preview it to make sure it works.
Then copy a single (simple) component file back into your into the Web.Projects directory - see if this can be fully edited, saved and live previewed.
                    Continue with others...

                    Report back...

Mark, what version of A5 are you using? I am using 3788-4187. You may need to download the latest pre-release http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/A...easenotes.html

                        Hi I am using 4096, windows 7 IE 11.

basically created a new project and then tried creating and saving a AW5 page. no go, get the error and not option to save. so imported a test page cant open that to edit either. tried all sorts of open and attempted saves nothing works. so in my experience Alpha 5 V 11 is no longer fit for purpose which does not fill me with confidence!

Try installing the pre-release (which basically is the final) and I think it may just work. Let me know how it goes.
