Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Re: Simple - Copy field value to another in a grid

      I'm about to give up. I know we are real close, but it doesn't work.

      It's component type is updateable grid. layout is form.
      you asked then a wrong question. mixing up dialog and grid.
      take a look at the screencast in the post#6
      it does copy in a grid.

      okay now it makes sense:
      you have updatable grid in new record entry which is at the bottom of the grid.
      since this is grid you cannot use 'D' place holder, you have to use 'G' place holder and row number.

      copy the following

      Code:
      var add1={grid.Object}.getValue('G','MailingAddress1',{grid.rowNumber});
      {grid.Object}.setValue('G','PhysicalAddressLine1',{Grid.RowNumber},add1);
      (correct the names as you need them)
      and check.

        take a look at this screencast:

        http://screencast.com/t/E3PgdyKkgw

        Code:
        var bill_add1 = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','BILL_ADDRESS_1',{Grid.RowNumber});
        var bill_add2 = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','BILL_ADDRESS_2',{Grid.RowNumber});
        var bill_city = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','BILL_CITY',{Grid.RowNumber});
        var bill_state = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','BILL_STATE_REGION',{Grid.RowNumber});
        var bill_postalcode = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','BILL_POSTAL_CODE',{Grid.RowNumber});
        var bill_country = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','BILL_COUNTRY',{Grid.RowNumber});

        {grid.Object}.setValue('G','SHIP_ADDRESS_1',{Grid.RowNumber},bill_add1);
        {grid.Object}.setValue('G','SHIP_ADDRESS_2',{Grid.RowNumber},bill_add2);
        {grid.Object}.setValue('G','SHIP_CITY',{Grid.RowNumber},bill_city);
        {grid.Object}.setValue('G','SHIP_STATE_REGION',{Grid.RowNumber},bill_state);
        {grid.Object}.setValue('G','SHIP_POSTAL_CODE',{Grid.RowNumber},bill_postalcode);
        {grid.Object}.setValue('G','SHIP_COUNTRY',{Grid.RowNumber},bill_country);
        this is the code that copies all the data to the shipping address.

          C'mon now... you really have to pick one... Grid or UX???

            Re: Simple - Copy field value to another in a grid

            lol - def some confusion here kstans. Dont worry though as I think everyone has been there and understands your frustrations.

            you should post exactly what type of component and if you are in detail view or grid view. If you are using a UX component then you would use the other code david posted
            Code:
            var _phone = {dialog.Object}.getValue('PHONE');
            {dialog.Object}.setValue('FAX', _phone);
            I have to say I still learned something though with David and Ghandi's combined posts - it shows now only how to do it in a dialog but a grid as well and in the grid view or the detail view - so even though there is some frustration there is still some good here - ALOT.

            Kstans - take some time to read over the posts as they apply to your situation. Don't worry once you get it - you'll KNOW it.
            Keep trying!
