Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

What is the official workaround to Alpha Five Stopped Working message?

This message appears when trying to run an application after installing a package built using the Alpha Installer and checking all the boxes for the Registry. All of the C# and .net stuff is in place.

Maybe Richard, Selwyn or Lenny can answer this.

If I have to, I will go back to V10.5, but this should work if it was shipped as part of the package.

Ted, I have had all kinds of issues with V11 and was told to do the same thing, turn UAC off. That is just not acceptable on clients machines.

Since the app I write does not have any V11 specific do-hickies in it I write it in V11 now and ship it with two installers. One for Win XP to Win 7 and another one for Win 8. I have not experianced any issues with V11 on Win 8 machines, just Win 7 and lower.

As for the installer creation. I have never used Alpha's built in install creator. I was using Astrum (which is now free) but just switched to Actual Installer because Astrum's Autopdator looks at their web site and it is down so I get a lot of errors.

Actual Installer works pretty well and the Update utility works very well if you include it in the distribution of your app.

      Thanks Preston.
I can control the UAC through Team Viewer, that part is OK.I am a little annoyed that V11 was shipped with so many issues unresolved.
I do have a possible workaround, but I will be chasing AS if they don't respond here.
The failure to complete the last V11 patch and release it is unforgivable.
Maybe the last patch will cover the issues, so I might have to wing it and try.
Problem with that is the disclaimer and it's down to me if it falls apart.

        Selwyn has responded.
The upshot is that the Rt needs to be installed, using the normal .exe, and the app installed using a 3rd party installer.
I might try just a straight zip file for that.
Onwards and upwards as they say.
Btw. Application Allstars launches tomorrow, if you want to sell your apps.

That sounds like a pain if I am reading it right. The answer Alpha has is to create two installs, one for the RT and one for the App? Why? Why not just create the whole thing with a third party installer and be done with it?

          And what is Application Allstars?

Yes a one off installer is what I will need to use.
