Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

PHONEGAP Related .. What do we need to get the Ajax callback to work from Mobile Device

    http://alphasoftware.net/building-na...y-and-quickly/

I know this topic of testing phonegap as native app is not as popular as I thought ?

I have followed Mr. Moore's examples and all working perfectly on device.

One thing I am having trouble understand is how to properly execute an ajac call back to my WAS server
I meant directly from the mobile device.

I notice there are two parameters required.

    * THE URL of your was server
    * Set the origin bit to *

Both has been set accordingly, when I perform the call back
my WAS server's error log did acknowledge the arrival of request.

the error suggest that the requested UX component ? is not exist ?
I did copied the sample UX into my WAS server,
which I have no idea the purpose , since the mobile native app suppose to just perform the ajax callback and expect result back

Has anyone of you done such test ?

I must admit I did not understand the DEBUG portion of the article
which might help.. Then again such simple ajax call back should work.
(tested to work in development mode from my desktop)

    Thanks

    Ken -

Make sure your development and server versions are both the latest builds.

Also, you have to publish the component that handles the Ajaxcallback to your server.

      Thanks Jeff,

Yes I confirm both server/development are the same (using pre-release version)

publish the component ? i gather you meant this "sample UX" component ?

yes I did .... and set for not restriction in security ... always allow

URL set perfectly .... Server can see the mobile device ....

I mean the component that is your Initial UX Component in your PhoneGap Build Project Settings.

          testpg.a5wcmp

This is the component that I successfully used to test Ajax callback.

Re: PHONEGAP Related .. What do we need to get the Ajax callback to work from Mobile Device

What is the name of your component?

If it is a5rundialog.a5wcmp, then yes, create an .a5w page of the same name (i.e., a5rundialog.a5w) and put the component in the page and then publish the .a5w page as well.

You have to publish your project to the WAS. __a5RunDialog.a5w is a system generated file when you publish a project. With Phonegap you wrap your project as an app but it is executed on the server. If however it is not available on the server then it cannot execute.

glad i have replies... unfortunately not working for me

                    just to be clear,

I use ajax an ordinary UX-component
I also have used UX as mobile web browser & yes the ajax all working
I also have use phonegap wrapped it with a WAS's URL & yes the ajax is working (actually just a mobile web browser)

But this post is about the recent phonegap sample supplied by Alpha

where I just want to perform a simple ajax call back from device directly to a WAS server.
the app on my iphone is being generated by Alpha's recent tools ... as it as default

I added a simple ajax call back button to test out.

                    Has anyone done it ?

Can you comment & offer assistance.

appreciate it very much in advance.

The Alpha/PhoneGap Integration no longer simply makes a call to your A5W page. In the original implementation of Alpha/PhoneGap the native app made a call to your server to open an a5w page. The new Alpha/PhoneGap implementation is a highly intelligent process and does the following. I think this is really important to understand. From the documentation...

Convert the UX Component into a set of files that contain all of the standalone HTML, CSS,
JavaScript and additional assets (images, etc.) required to build a single page PhoneGap app that
is installed and loaded locally from the device. This ensures that the initial page can provide a fast,
workable and pleasant user experience, even when the device is offline.

                            Thanks David,

Yes I am referring to the latest article :

                            http://alphasoftware.net/building-na...y-and-quickly/

I have all sample working very well on iphone & ipad ...

i added a simple button similar to what the sample Jeff Benson supplied.
The ajax confirm working as it on development mode.

What else do we have to add/do in order to perform Ajax from Native/phonegap-alpha app embedded in my iphone

am i missing something ? I read the article several times, the only thing I did not do is messing with those DEBUGGING tools.
