Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Lenny,

Have you ever tried to call Alpha Customer Service? I'm on my 3rd try and so far this time i've had time to do a 5 star sudoku while i waited.

I'm on vacation in Florida, so don't have time to wait when the kids want to get to Magic Kingdom....bad timing for me to go on vacation! Like you said, i'm telling my customers "unfortunate". Their reply is unprintable.

I'm in the same boat ....I'm on hold with Alpha right now. AA development doesn't work now (they fixed my app servers yesterday). E-mail sent too...

Is every single license going to need individual attention?? We have several V11 & V12 licenses. This is beyond irritating. I have work I must do but can't do a flipping thing right now.

The email asked you to go through the About dialog in Alpha Anywhere and verify your subscription information for your Dev, AWS, and Desktop licenses:

Please go to the Help menu in Alpha Anywhere and select the 'About Alpha Anywhere' menu option. Then click the link to 'Show Subscription Info'. This will show the information we have on file for your Developer license. In order to check the information we have for your Server licenses, you will need to type your server license numbers in the form.

If the information appears to be correct, then you are all set—there is nothing that you need to do. However, if you think there is some discrepancy in the data, please click the 'Submit Feedback' button and complete the form.

I wanted to offer my sincere apologies to anyone who was affected by this.
Resolving this for each person who was affected has been an extremely high priority in the company.

I have stayed with V11 but recollection is this not the first time there was a problem with the WAS and timing/clocks. From the sounds of the issue, I hope there is a decent permanent solution to the problem. There is nothing like the wrath of a unhappy customer to spoil a day/week/month.

As Clinton would say "I feel your pain"

Re: Access denied to our AA subscriptions - anyone else?

Our problem was due to an old version of the Application server. We spoke to Selwyn and Lenny and they sorted this issue. We have patched to the latest version of the App Server and the licencing issue is resolved. If you haven't updated the app server, this worked for us. I didn't get a notice either by the way.

Re: Access denied to our AA subscriptions - anyone else?

This is the post from Alpha:

We have identified a problem in some builds prior to early November that can cause an unexpected .Net exception for some users. These builds attempt to contact the activation server on a non-standard port which may be blocked by firewalls.

If you are getting a .Net exception upon activating, please make sure you are running at least build 1788-4225 from November 15, 2013. All releases since then include the correct port and will not be blocked by a firewall. Patches are available from http://downloads.alphasoftware.com/A...chdownload.asp

If you are running a build newer that 1620 but older than 1788, and you have a reason which you cannot apply the patch, and you are getting a .Net exception when activating, ensure that your local system and any firewalls on your network will allow Alpha to initiate an outbound connection on port 8777.

                        -Lenny
