Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Signature Capture - Duplicate Signature Displayed On Page

    Greetings,

I've stumbled upon some strange behavior in a UX component and am hoping that the collective expertise found here could help point me in the right direction so I can get this issue resolved. At this point I'm not sure if this a possible bug or that I'm the culprit behind this one....

I have a SignatureCapture control in a UX and when the control is in capture mode, as a signature is drawn, a duplicate signature is displayed in the top-left portion of the screen almost as if there is a second SignatureCapture control receiving input from the 'actual' control being used. Once I click the Accept button which changes the canvas to display mode the 'phantom signature' disappears and it is once again business as usual.

I have tried, without any success, patching to the latest prerelease and also tried removing/re adding the signature control to the UX.

I am experiencing this issue on a Samsung Galaxy Tab2 which has my Alpha v12 application loaded up via Phonegap Build(v2.7)

    Many thanks in advance,
    Justin Taylor

PhoneGap Build 2.7 was a bit precarious. In fact... they all were. I'd say the first reliable build was 3.1 with 3.3 looking very good.

I've just built a quick UX with the signature capture control and ran it through PhoneGap Build and installed it on a Nexus 7. It does not exhibit the behaviour you're showing.

Are you doing anything funky with the DOM?

      Nice form by the way.

        Thanks David!
No I don't believe I'm doing anything out of the ordinary w/ the DOM. I'll look into PhoneGap Build 3.1 and let you know if that resolves my problem. I was hesitant to go beyond 2.7 since I'm developing on an older tablet (Galaxy Tab 2)....

        Thanks for the suggestion!

Since you're using PhoneGap Build 2.7, that means you using the original method for building apps... you're loading the UX from the server when your app starts. Alpha with PhoneGap Build integrated renders your component into your app so that your component is now sitting in your device. Often I'll test apps on an iPad 2 or iPad mini 1. I know you can't compare apples to tabs (get it?... so funny, I know) but just to say that this stuff seems to run pretty good on some older tablets.

I tried using a couple of older galaxy tab 2s but I found that almost everything did not display properly forms, grids, etc. I'm not sure of what version of android but the units are 3yrs old.

              Hello Again,
Apologies for disappearing for a couple weeks!

Per your suggestion David, I've moved from using PhoneGap Build 2.7 to version 3.3.0 and I have to say that I'm very impressed with Alpha's integration of PhoneGap buiild. Although this application seems to be much more stable in 3.3.0, I'm still experience the same issue I originally described on 3/26.

Eliminating possibilities seems to be the best way to diagnose problems like these, so now we know that using PhoneGap 2.7 wasn't the culprit on this one. I suppose the next thing I could try would be getting my hands on a newer Android Tablet. I'm really hoping this isn't the issue however since our client has purchased a fleet of Galaxy Tab 2s in anticipation of the development of what we are calling the 'mobile portal' to their application.

In the meanwhile, if anyone has any other ideas to try, I'd love to hear them.

              Thanks,
              ~Justin Taylor

Oh and very clever joke David, you always have to appreciate 'our' particular brand of humor.

Sorry to hear a current PhoneGap version supported by PGB didn't do the trick.

Send me a private message with the Alpha Generated QRCode included. I'll scan it and run it on my Nexus 7.

                  David,
Thank you very much for the offer to help in debugging this. I have the QR Code are ready to go for you, but can't seem to successfully send you (or anyone else for that matter) a private message. I am receiving the following message whenever I click private message:

Justin Taylor, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Any idea how to get around this or perhaps another means of privately sending along the QR Code?

                  Thanks,
                  Justin Taylor

Go to your forum account settings... under General Settings... and adjust your Private Messaging options.

                      Hi David,

I've scoured my account settings and do not see any Private Messaging options. I'll post a screenshot below to verify I'm looking in the correct place.
Is it possible that because I only have a few posts that private message is disabled for my account?

                      Thanks,
