Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

PhoneGap How to get my intranet Alpha app to work?

I've finally started messing with PhoneGap in AA 2.0.

I went through the documentation, built the sample application, published it, downloaded it to my android device and it worked the first time.

Now, I'd like to get my current mobile browser intranet application to work as a native android application.

I'm able to build it, upload it, and download/install it but it doesn't work. I'm sure it's because it's loaded with Ajax callbacks and must communicate with my intranet server. The problem is, I have no idea how to make this work properly. I've tried setting the url for ajax callbacks and I THINK I have that right. I've also included the child UX's in the "Additional Files Required". I don't know what else should be in there.

The app is already a mobile style app so it's using panel cards and such.

Can someone help me out with actually getting it to run properly?

    Hi Jinx,

You don't need to include the child UX's in your list of assets. They get loaded from the server.

    What exactly is the problem?

Haha, the exact problem is that nothing works after the parent ux....LOL

Seriously, I have a parent UX with buttons that should load the children but when I click them it navigates panels and just sits there with a working message. There doesn't seem to be any errors that I can read though I sure there are some.

ETA: I just tried something again and I'm actually getting an error this time....
      404 Not Found
The requested URL /Phonegap/_a5RunDialog.a5w was not found on this server.

This was after I added the /phonegap folder to the end of my callback url.

Are you using the latest build? Is your "URL for Ajax Callbacks" pointing to your published folder where the child UX's reside?

Yup, latest build. I first tried just my base folder but I was using my domain name and not the IP address. Then I published the phonegap folder and tried using that. Now I'm going to try my base folder with the IP address instead of the domain name and see what happens.

Now I jsut get a "Webpage not availlable" warning.... it says that "The webpage at error.html might be temporarily down"....blah blah. This is as soon as I click on one of the buttons in my parent UX that should bring up a child ux.
            That's not too helpful.

            Maybe it's my security?

Could be. I have not yet done any PG testing with security turned on. Can you test it with security turned off?

I had the same issue with the "URL for Ajax Callbacks" - when I used "www.mycompany.com" - but worked great when I replaced it with "http://www.mycompany.com/"
Looks like a minor difference but made a major change. Thanks.

Re: PhoneGap How to get my intranet Alpha app to work?

Ok, I JUST got some of it to work. It either had to do with my security (I made my initial UX always allowed and put a login function in it) or it had to do with my initial UX not being listed as a default page in my server. Not sure.

Now it will navigate to my child UX's.

Unfortunately my lists on those ux's won't search so I'll have to figure out what the deal is with that. They are initially populated but maybe ajax callbacks aren't working.

I'm going to change mine around again and try the URL a few different ways right now. Thanks.

I always use "http://". What kind of data source do your lists use?

Uhm....OK..... So, it totally bypasses the security on the Child UX's that are called from the main one if I don't bother to login on the main one. I can click on any of the buttons and it doesn't matter. My callbacks seem to be working now though.

Actually, the only things not working now are security and pdf downloads. The pdf download button gives me the old "The webpage at error.html might be temporarily down"....blah blah again.

I think the addition of the "/" at the end of my url is what fixed it, though I'm not quite sure....

I don't know what the heck is going on now. It works part of the time and now it's back to that "The webpage at error.html might be temporarily down" error message whenever I click on anything without logging in. When I do log in, it's back to just sitting there when it should be making an ajax callback.

There are some strange things afoot here.

I haven't been working on it for a while now. Last time I checked, it was working about 3/4 of the time. I had other fish to fry and my non-native mobile app works fine so it hasn't been a priority recently for me. Some day, when I have some time, I'll get back to it again.
