Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Good thought Chris. I add new types so seldom I wasn't thinking about that. So I added it. And still:

    404 Not Found
    The requested URL /manifest.manifest was not found on this server.

      Yes, you would need to stop and restart the Application Server to have it use new/updated MIME types.

        Well, I've done that Lenny. And trying to cache a very simple .manifest with just one item (the .a5w page) and still get

        404 Not Found
        The requested URL /manifest.manifest was not found on this server.

        Types of files allowed in security is now set properly.
        The MIME type association has been changed according to the OP's note.

        I'm missing something else but don't know what.

          If you're requesting the URL directly for testing as I suggested, the MIME type would not be in play at all as far as the 404 error goes. The MIME type only controls what the browser does with the file once it receives it. The 404 suggests a server configuration issue preventing the file from not being found, such as using a different webroot, filesystem permissions, Windows hiding file extensions making it look like manifest.manifest.txt is actually manifest.manifest, etc.

          Take a look in the server's error log and it should included the exact physical path that is being used when looking for the file. You can then try using Xbasic to open and read that file to verify permissions, etc.

            Yessir, just got back to this and my file was named manifest.manifest.txt. Fixed that, and now my Chrome Application Cache shows what I expect. The playground gets bigger and bigger!

              Re: MIME Types: How do I add one?

              Chris noted this earlier in this thread:

              Javascript files. . .which I'm still trying to figure out how to maintain well since AA has links to JS files that aren't an actual file in the webroot and each AA build uses a new filename; you can look at the source of the page, though, click the link to the AA JS to open it, and then store it as an actual file in the webroot
              Definitely an issue. I have one page that's in heavy use I'm experimenting with first. It takes over 10 seconds to load, and much of this is in the loading of A5.js (4.7 seconds) and a5-27164452.js (5 seconds). Even though I've named them in my manifest they insist on downloading each time. I understand why -- they've "changed" according to a comparison with the AppCache.

              I kinda dislike the option that Chris suggests of saving them as a named file. That would require maintenance which would be nice to avoid.

              Maybe after more study of how to manage the manifest I'll come up with some ideas, but in the meantime, any suggestions/solutions invited!

              While I'm very interested in using this feature for offline capability, the possibility of speeding up page loads is pretty darned enticing and worth the effort.

                Re: MIME Types: How do I add one?

                Here is one example of creating a keypair and storing it in local storage securely and then retrieving it any time afterward. I developed this technique to ensure zero knowledge on my end:

                Code:
                function makekeys(){
                	if (typeof(localStorage) == 'undefined' ) {
                		alert('Your browser does not support HTML5 localStorage. Try upgrading.');
                		} else {
                		try {
                			var name = {dialog.Object}.getValue('txt_name');
                			var userid = name + '<' + {dialog.Object}.getValue('txt_userid') + '>';
                			var passphrase = {dialog.Object}.getValue('txt_pass');
                			var key = keygen(2048, userid, passphrase);
                			var encrypted = CryptoJS.AES.encrypt(key.privateKeyArmored, passphrase);
                			localStorage.setItem("fd2go.privkey", encrypted);
                			localStorage.setItem("fd2go.pubkey", key.publicKeyArmored);
                			{dialog.Object}.setValue('privkey',encrypted);
                			{dialog.Object}.setValue('pubkey',key.publicKeyArmored);
                		} catch (e) {
                			alert('Quota exceeded!');
                }}}

                  Re: MIME Types: How do I add one?

                  I recommend this link to understand more about the Application Cache for beginners.
                  just remember that every page that you want cached in local storage must contain the appcache header:
                  <html manifest="example.appcache">
                  ...
                  </html>

                  Oh, and the reason why mime types are important is that the browser needs to know if the manifest file is an image, video, text?
                  Javascript files are handled this way in this sample manifest file:
                  Code:
                  CACHE MANIFEST
                  index.html
                  stylesheet.css
                  images/logo.png
                  scripts/main.js
                  http://cdn.example.com/scripts/main.js
                  note that main.js is declared first and then located.

                          Picking this thread back up:

                          It appears you need __a5RunDialog.a5w in the manifest. Without it, a UX doesn't run when offline -- the console in Chrome seems to point to this pretty clearly.

                          So, I've added __a5RunDialog.a5w (yes, matched the case) to my manifest, but the whole manifest fails because I get a 500 error when it tries to get this file. All other files in the manifest get stored just fine, including a couple of my A5W pages plus __a5ServerAvailableTest.a5w.

                          The server Xbasic Error Log shows this:

                          Code:
