    Default Video Thumbnail To Display Once A Video Is Uploaded

    I want to display a video thumbnail (image of first video frame). I want another image (add video image) to display until the user uploads their video. Once the video is uploaded and converted and the video thumbnail is made, I want the video thumbnail to show instead of 'add video image'. The video thumbnail image will be called the name of the video that the user calls it, so the image name will vary. What is the best way to do this? I have the 'add video image' already set to always display (1=1). Hope this makes sense.

    I looked into this about a year ago and didn't find a solution. Not to say one doesn't exist but could be why you're not getting an answer.

    You would think that since Alpha Five works with video then this would be possible. Most sites when you upload video it changes from an add video image to the first frame of video image.

    Bringing this up again, if anyone knows, perhaps an Alpha Five employee can chime in?

    Depending on what you're doing... how your html is set up... the html5 video tag automatically displays the first frame of the video. You can include the poster attribute to override this, but it doesn't sound like you want to do that.

    If using the <video> tag then after your video is uploaded, set the src of your video to the full video name and the first frame will display.

    I've tested this using a button onClick events and it works.

    src not set

    <video width="320" height="240" controls>
    <source id="mySource" src="" type="video/mp4">
    Your browser does not support the video tag.
    </video>

    after upload... set the source
    $("mySource").src = "CustomControlExample_Part1.mp4";

    and the thumbnail displays.

    So... a bit more info may be needed about how you're displaying your videos... and a sample might be nice.

    Davidk, how would you set it up to dynamically change the filename to the name the user sets their video file when they upload it?

    So in your code $("mySource").src = "CustomControlExample_Part1.mp4";

    How would you set it up so "customControlExample_Part1.mp4" updates to the video filename the user sets when they upload the video file?

    Can you post a test UX that contains the way you upload the video. I'll work with it and re-post it.

    DavidK, I am trying to figure out which one to post. I have one component that handles the uploading of the video and it is in this component that the filename is set and it updates the database to the file path of the video. I have another component that displays the icon, that I want updated when the video is uploaded, when you click on the icon the video plays. Which component do you want me to post?

    Both would be perfect... I can see the upload happen and then work with the display aspect.

    Here's one way you may find useful using the <video> tag and a bit of javascript.

    In the attached component, pvv_play_video, I've added a new static text field configured as a FreeForm layout.

    The video stuff goes in there.

    Have a look...

    Thanks for this, question, instead of just displaying the video thumbnail to the side of the "add video" jpeg, how would you get it to replace the jpeg with the video thumbnail. I am just getting around to implementing this.

    Hey Steven,

    I've looked at the sample and I believe that's what it's doing. In the sample there's a large "add video" image, and then a Static Text control. The onRowRender of the grid changes the "poster" attribute of the static text control to either the video thumbnail, or to the "add video" image. It's the static text control that displays one or the other. You can remove the large "add video" image and I think you'll have what you want. If not, write back.
