Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    List control select current record

    Hi Alphaholics;

Trying the list control for the first time and it is cracking my head...

Created a list control out of an SQL table, I want to select a record on the list and using a button at the bottom of the list, open a UX component to edit the data. My problem is that my list does not seem to select a record when I click on it, instead as I move about on the list every record the mouse is over is highlighted and when I move the mouse to the button in order to press it none of the rows seem to be selected.

Used action javascript on the on-click event to open a ux component for editing the current record on the list.

Re: List control select current record

    Hi Juan

You can do what you want but could you accept clicking on the row to open the UX?

The clicking on the list selects the row but it also allows you to fire events.

    There are 3 similar versions
    Click the row
Click a button on the row
    Click a hyperlink

Alpha takes care of all the focus/timing issues.

    List Click.png

The picture above shows a list control with a button, a hyperlink and of course we can click on the row.

In the picture below when I click on the button I ask Alpha to make sure that I have focus on that row before the onclick event fires; focus row checkbox.
I also tell Alpha only fire this event if the button is pressed; stop event propagation checkbox (Don't fire if the user clicks the row, but not the button)

    Buttonclick.png

In the following picture the clicking on the Hyperlink gets the value from the hyperlink field.
As you can see from the shot there are javascript events connected to this link.

Let me know if you need more specific help.

Thank you for the response Michael, guess gonna have to learn a lot more JavaScript, I have always done much of my processing on the xbasic side :(, but suppose that using less xbasic will lighten the load on the server :).

I can understand how you are loading the variable data into JavaScript var's from the list and the creation of the array (var _d = {} and subsequent _d.p_xxx), but what does the [], the push and the insertdata() do, suppose the latter is a call to a JavaScript function which in turn does an Ajax callback?

Re: List control select current record

This is cribbed from a Selwyn component. I can find the link if you want but you only need to open a UX that is all handled by genies.

The code you are talking about looks at the line chosen and builds a new static list in another Panel to show a much more detailed view of the current line. It the navigates the user to this alternate view.

To answer you question there is no Ajax call back it is all performed client side. I have a list called list daily based upon a MySQL backend.
List Push is an empty list that the data is "Pushed" into for a full screen display of one line. I use static data in list push so there is no server load.
[] is an empty array the a.push builds the array and the insert data builds the new static data list.

I only showed the code because it did not require the focus row check box to be checked.

        Michael

PS Alpha moves at such a speed that it is daunting trying to keep up, as I get into list controls I realise they are worth the effort.

Re: List control select current record

Been watching Selwyn videos like crazy, but there are so many of then that it is hard to find the one that covers the functionality you need. It would really help me if you could please send me that link.

Alpha really needs a comprehensive manual that covers every functionality available, but as you mentioned they are going so fast adding new functionality that by the time they could get around to writing one, well it would be outdated.

          Thanks,

            Hi Juan

There is so much it is hard to direct you.

            Search on http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...eAndMove_1.swf

List Control - Methods - Populating List, Moving Data from One List to Another - Moving Rows Up and Down

            Google should get you there.

I am going to bed, let me know if you cannot find the videos and I will send you a zip.

Re: List control select current record

Found what my problem was, had the mentality of grids and UX components where you would set the parent as read only and then edit the record on a different UX component which was not read only.

Seems that the list select does not work when it is marked read-only, once I unchecked the flag the list allowed me to select a record and send it to be edited on my UX component.

Again thank you for the help Michael.
