Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    'Who Modified' in repeating section

    I am trying to update WhoModified and DateModified values in a repeating section. Using the example in the server side afterDialogValidate event (Wiki for V11 dialog)
    e.dataSubmitted.DateModified = Date()
    e.dataSubmitted.WhoModified = a5ws_GetCurrentUser()
    e.dirtyColumns = e.dirtyColumns + crlf()+ "DateModified" + crlf() + "WhoModified"

    It fails on 'submit'. Nothing is updated

    If I add a row delimiter to the e.dataSubmitted, i.e. e.dataSubmitted.DateModified[1], the dirty values in the repeating section will be updated, but not the DateModified or Who modified. I feel like I am missing something simple here but can't figure it out.

    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Re: 'Who Modified' in repeating section

    you will have to use activeRow to get the row number and then set the value, then it will update
    I have a code in this forum for a different question I will look for it and post it for you to study.

      Re: 'Who Modified' in repeating section

      The repeating sections are a bit different.

      If you look at the help in the server-side events there are some clues on how to do this.

      I use the code below to get the current user and date modified into the dirty repeating rows. This UX has only one repeating section (e.repeatingSectionInfo[1]). The "EDITEDBY_A5INSTANCE" + i + crlf() construct builds the dirty rows.

      Code:
      dim username as c
      username = gvc_get_current_user() 'custom function to get user name in the format I want it in
      'Get total dirty rows minus deleted rows to use to get user id into edited rows only.
      dim del_rows as n = line_count(e.repeatingSectionInfo[1].deletedRows)
      dim drty_rows as n = line_count(e.repeatingSectionInfo[1].dirtyRowsInSection) 'dirty rows includes deleted rows.
      dim rowcount as n
      rowcount =  drty_rows - del_rows
      for i = 1 to rowcount 'loop through the dirty rows
      	e.datasubmitted.editedby[i] = username
      	e.datasubmitted.edited[i] = now()
      	e.dirtyColumns = e.dirtyColumns + crlf()+ "EDITEDBY_A5INSTANCE" + i + crlf() + "EDITED_A5INSTANCE" + i + crlf()
      next

        Re: 'Who Modified' in repeating section

        Thanks Jim,

        Tried several iterations of your example and no go. Tried exactly as example show in the builder as it says to set the values "in row 1 in a repeating section regardless of whether the user edited the value or not", still fails on submit without row delimiter but doesn't save. Tried moving the code to the dialogValidate event and then fails with 'Value already typed'.

        Know I must be missing something simple?

          Re: 'Who Modified' in repeating section

          At this point I would just try a simple line that should work, such as

          e.dataSubmitted.DateModified = Date()

          See if that works. Also I am guessing you have the field set correctly, such as a date field and not a date and time field.

          If that works then you can start trying other code snippets.

          If that doesn't work then you can try by specifying the row number or other events. See if it works in a regular grid and not a repeating section.

            Thanks Dan,

            Tried just DateModified and still doesn't work. I have other dialogs in the same project that are not repeating sections and it works perfectly.

            This is a repeating section in a dialog called from a grid. No problem adding new records or editing in the repeating section, just can't get the datemodified and whomodified fields to update/save.

            Have tried where the repeating section only has one row.
            Arrrg!
