Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha Conference in October

Does anyone have any information on the Alpha Conference in October 2014 other than the pre-registration blurb on the Alpha site?

I'm specifically looking for WHERE the conference is being held and what the agenda might look like.

I already pre-registered, and I want to book plane and hotel, but don't know if I need to be in the day before and leave the day after or what in order to attend everything I want to attend.

If the conference isn't all worked out yet, I guess that's the way it goes, but then maybe someone could give me a heads-up on when it will be nailed down so I can set my calendar to book my reservations after that date.

        Re: Alpha Conference in October

I have pre-registered as well. Have sent 3 emails asking for details so I can book airfare and a hotel room. Only response received was the exact same information sent to me in the initial email announcing the conference.

I know several people including me that have not signed up because we do not know what will be covered, discussed, etc.

I have sent a few myself!

I'm hoping this post will prompt some kind of an official response, even if it's - please give us a little more time.

                  Re: Alpha Conference in October

                  Ok ....

I have received a couple of messages about this. They have the hotel setup. I assume that all of you have seen the message, but if not, it is booked at the Boston Marriot Courtyard.

Unfortunately, the "great" conference rate is $259. Per night.

I guess other Alpha developers make a lot more than I do.

If I can't find a MUCH better rate nearby, I'm going to have to cancel. I can't afford to pay more for my hotel room than I did for the entire conference. I don't know Boston.

Anyone have any suggestions for a nearby hotel that will still be easy to get back and forth to the conference?

                    Re: Alpha Conference in October

Having posted the previous message, I got an email that suggested:

Another option is to use https://www.airbnb.com/

A number of folks have indicated that this is what they will be doing.

I will look into that. Anyone need a roommate?

                      Re: Alpha Conference in October

Did a little checking and breakfast is not included - extra $15, and parking is $50 per day, so even staying at another motel and driving in will be expensive.

I'm not that interested in an impressive conference room, just would like to meet a bunch of you guys, and in the process, learn something about the program I use every day.
But unless I can find a lot less expensive lodging, I'm canceling too.

I was looking into going, but I just cannot afford the hotel expenses at this point. Its a shame, I would love to learn a lot more and meet others. Maybe next time.

                          Re: Alpha Conference in October

If we got several people (like 4 to 6) we could find a less expensive hotel then carpool in, sharing the costs of car rental and parking. If we can get 6 people and rent a mini-van, that would really cut down on costs.

I'd be willing to organize, but I'd need help finding a hotel we can stay out. I don't know Boston at all.

Is there public transportation we can rely on to get around? Maybe help cut down expenses further?

                            Re: Alpha Conference in October

There are a bunch of hotels in the $120-$160 range on hotels.com that would allow you to use Boston Transportation (buses or trains) to get to the conference hotel at very low cost

We are lining up a very strong program for the event and we expect it to be a very worthwhile event.

Let me know If i can be of assistance
                            regards

Yeah and I can spend a Friday night on the beach, looking at the ocean in Ft Lauderdale for 55.00 a night. Have breakfast downstairs for about 10.00. I do not understand these hotels wanting so much money.
Nothing about alpha in this. I just don't understand the price of hotels.
