Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Here's my suggestion if you don't want the bnb option and can't afford the host hotel.
If you can't see from the image, this is hotwire searched today for 10/7-10/10 at $128 per night with free parking and free internet
        no1.jpg

Here's a public transportation website: - it looks like it is $2.10 pp / per way.
        http://www.mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/system_map/

By my estimation and some personalized planning on your part, that makes it a much easier pill to swallow.

        Disclaimer:
If you haven't used hotwire before, you basically choose an area and a group of possible hotels with guaranteed star rating and amenities that hotwire provides to you. You only find out exactly where you're staying afterward, but if you're like me, the price, star rating, amenities, and reviews is all I care about. You can usually piece together one of two or three hotels it could be.
Take note that regardless of the hotel you end up with, you cannot receive rewards points from those individual hotels.
Also keep in mind that hotwire hotel deals are usually non-refundable, so make sure you are going before you book. I am not affiliated with them and am not responsible for any bad experiences you have with the site.

It looks like the 72, 74, and 75 bus lines will take you to the nearest metro if you get a hotel that's far NW. If you get lucky and get a hotel in the SE of the district, you might be able to avoid the bus altogether.
Then, the metro will be another $2.65 pp / per way. Still seems to beat parking unless you have 6+.
I haven't looked into the cost-efficiency of a charlie card, but it looks like it includes a bus transfer for each metro ticket. For 3 days, it's unlikely worth it, although I didn't actually see the cost of a charlie card.

            Yay traaaaaaaaaaaaains!

Go with the Charlie Ticket if you're don't have the time to find the location of & wait in line at a CharlieCard Store. The Card is just a $0.50 discount off the bus/metro rates for Charlie Tickets.
            Charlie Ticket prices:
            • bus - $2.10
            • metro(aka subway) - $2.65 *per trip* *meaning you can change subway trains as many times as you want for one price*
            • commuter rail varies - $2.10 - a lot (if you're coming from Providence, it's $10.50)

Here's a VERY confusing chart. The current prices are the ones listed in the "proposed" column: http://www.mbta.com/fares_and_passes/

And if you're tech savvy, you may be interested in the mTicket system (MAGIC SMOKE AND MIRRORS): http://www.mbta.com/fares_and_passes/mticketing/

Soooo... What time will the conference be running each day? How early should I be arriving at Providence Station?

Sarah, I live in Wakefield (13 miles from Boston) and I would allow myself a minimum of 1.5 hours to get there if I take the Commuter Rail & Orange Line. Your mileage may vary.

Yes. Google maps gives a decent time estimate. But I don't know when to leave if I don't know what time the conference events start!

                    Hi Guys,

I am pretty excited about the conference, especially because it will be a great networking opportunity for me to meet up with Alpha Developer. I am in the process of getting the tickets and all but before, I was wondering how many of you are attending it?

                    Thanks,
                    Pevisha

Last year there were about 100 attendees there. 75 or so were developers, the rest was alpha staff, various speakers, film crews, etc.

                            Peter,

Last year's conference is not to be compared with this one; invitations back then were only sent to a limited number of developers. I expect a lot more people to be present this year.

No inside info here & no idea about numbers but I expect quite a few more attendees now that AA is getting more & more attention in the mobile arena.
