Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Part of Toolbar missing

Installed Alpha 5 V.10 on Windows 7 computer. Restored my databases but I am missing some items on the toolbar.

I have the standard Toolbar FILE, VIEW, TABLE, TOOLS, WINDOW, HELP but am missing BROWSE, RECORDS, FIND, QUERY AND SCRIPTS.

    Please help.

The items you describe should be available when viewing a form. If you change to form design mode, Form menu, Form Properties, Menus/Toobars tab, are the options still set to <System Menu> and <System Toolbar>?
    There can be only one.

What happens if you design a new form and save it?

Is the complete toolbar visible then? (if so, not an Alpha executable installation issue)
Open a form where the complete toolbar is not visible, make some changes, save, open in view mode. Any difference?

The toolbar visible in your screenshot is the form design toolbar. Appears to me to be complete.

You're showing pictures of the forms on a machine other than the one with the toolbar display issue? Doesn't help. I understand that you have tools missing.

Check the directory in which you have Alpha Five installed. You should find four files.

                a5_system_toolbars.adb
                a5_system_toolbars.alb
                a5_system_toolbars.alm
                a5_system_toolbars.alx

                Are those present?

I have all those files in the directory. Here is a screen shot of the only toolbar I have.

I can't design a new form because the design toolbar is missing.

From the Forms tab of the control panel.

                      Form menu, New form.
Choose a Data Source, use the Finish button.
                      File menu, Save.
Close and view the new form.

You may have a faulty installation, given all the issues. You could check the windows registry if you feel comfortable doing that.

                      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alpha Software\Alpha Five 10.0\SystemToolbars

                      Should see keys

(default) with the data (value not set)
                      Version# with the data 2.000000

I have all of the above you mentioned. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and am still having the problem. I was running the software on Windows XP 32 bit and now tried to install on Windows 7 64 bit. Don't know if that matters.

Since reinstalling didn't work and the registry appears ok, I'm out of ideas.

When you installed/reinstalled did you do so outside of Program Files (x86)? Does your database itself reside outside of Program files (x86)?

                              Betsy,

Tell us about your setup. Is this Win7 machine stand alone, or part of a network? Is the database on the local machine, or a server out there on the network?

If this is a networked application are other workstations having the same problem? Are they Win7 machines also?
