Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Mobile UX Login - Redirect if membership expired.

    I am using a UX login for a mobile app. Upon successful login, the afterLogin client-side event fires and sets the active panel with:

    {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANEL_APPLICATION');

    The afterLogin client-side event also runs an xBasic function to set a session variable to indicate their membership status

    Code:
    SELECT
    		CASE convert_type(session.Expiration,"d") < date()
    			session.CurrentStatus = "Expired"
           	CASE else
           		session.CurrentStatus = "Active"
    end SELECT
    That session variable was published to allow it to be used in client-side events.

    The afterLogin steps are:

    Code:
    {dialog.object}.runAction('MemberID');
    {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANEL_APPLICATION');
    So my question is.....how do I make a conditional panel choice based upon the value of that session variable?

    I know the code below is not correct, but the logic is

    Code:
    If session.CurrentStatus = "Active",
    {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANEL_APPLICATION');

    Else
    {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANEL_EXPIRED');
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    you're close

    Javascriptifying your code a but more

    it's case sensitive too, you can't use "If" it has to be "if"

    and == for comparison

    Code:
    if (session.CurrentStatus == "Active") {
      {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANEL_APPLICATION');
    } else {
      {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANEL_EXPIRED');
    }

      Michael,

      Thank you! I knew I was close…but my javascript skills are suspect at best! Much appreciated!

          Well....something is still not right. I tried the following code:

          Code:
          if (session.CurrentStatus == "Active") {
            {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANEL_APPLICATION');
          } else {
            {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANEL_EXPIRED');
          }

          AND this code

          Code:
          if (session.CurrentStatus == 'Active') {
            {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANEL_APPLICATION');
          } else {
            {dialog.object}.panelSetActive('PANEL_EXPIRED');
          }
          But the login never completes. It stays at the login UX panel until I comment out the code.

          Once I remove the if statement from my onLogin clientside event, the login completes....so I am guessing something is not right with the if statement?

          Any ideas?

            Re: Mobile UX Login - Redirect if membership expired.

            Well...I solved this a different way.

            I use my xbasic function to set the session.status value to "PANEL_APPLICATION" if the membership is current or "EXPIRED_MEMBERSHIP" if not)

            Then I use the afterLogin event and use.getSessionVariable to give the .panelSetActive the panel name

            Code:
            var panel = {dialog.object}.getSessionVariable('STATUS')
            {dialog.object}.panelSetActive(panel);
            The only issue now is that there appears to be a cache issue when logging out and back in. If I log in as an expired member, logout and then login again as the current member....I am first shown the expired panel...but refreshing the screen moves me to the correct panel. So I am guessing this is a cache issue?

              Might be cache.

              One thing I often do while developing is put a label or textbox on the page with a hard coded version number value embedded in it, so I can see if I'm viewing the current version of the component and not the previous cached version.

              And manually update the embedded value of version number each time before publishing and testing.

              Or even sometimes just an alert box will do (and change the alert message each time you publish, so you know when testing for sure whether or not you are seeing the latest version in the browser)

                Re: Mobile UX Login - Redirect if membership expired.

                Michael,

                I am pretty sure it was a cache issue. I could never resolve it where the appropriate panel consistently appeared as needed. What I ended up doing was removing the conditional panel redirect and instead had every login go to the landing page.

                On the landing page I used server show hide calculations to hide the menu button for small devices and the entire menu list control for tablets and such. I also had to remove the right swipe gesture that showed the menu because it would still work even when the menu had been hidden.

                Finally, I used show-hide to show/hide text appropriate to the membership status. If expired, show text indicating that along with buttons that take them to the renewal website. If current, show welcome statement, etc.

                It now consistently works as expected and with the exception of removing the right swipe gesture, all functionality remains.

                Thanks for your help on the code however. I am gradually learning more about javascript and appreciate your willingness to offer suggestions and help!

                Greg
