Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    List control with tree control - close window after selection

    I have a list control in an unbound UX that uses a tree control. The data from the tree control has been hand entered for more control and works just fine. An javascript function runs the filter list control action script entering the value of the tree control record selected.

    My issue is that I have placed the tree control in a drop down window that appears after a search button is clicked. The tree control works fine in this configuration, but I want to close the drop down window once the user has selected a valid choice.

    I have added the following after the filter list control action script:

    {dialog.Object}.closeContainerWindow(this);

    I have also tried entering the name of the container that hosts the popup tree control

    {dialog.Object}.closeContainerWindow('CONTAINER_2');

    The filter list control works fine, but the popup window never closes until I click elsewhere on the screen.

    I have also tried adding the same two methods to the ON CLICK event in the leaf properties (running sync. after the javascript function call)

    I must be missing something obvious....just don't know what. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Re: List control with tree control - close window after selection

    Greg, I use the following quite a bit to close windows opened from a ux.
    Hope it helps.

    Code:
    {dialog.object}.closeContainerWindow('{dialog.componentname}.R1');

      Hi Nate,

      Thank you for the reply. I am still a newbie with client side events.

      I tried using the code you provided but got the same result (dialog does not close). I understand the dialog.componentname placeholder will be replaced at runtime. Do I need to use Firebug to determine if the ".R1" portion is getting renamed?

      Thanks again

        Firefox is certainly a good place to start.

        I am using a tree control for navigation as well.
        I have the tree control inside of a ux and open that ux from the click of a button, I then omit the javascript from the onNodeClick event from the tree javascript properties.

        Is that where you are calling the javascript to close the window or somewhere else?

          Re: List control with tree control - close window after selection

          Nate,

          Thanks again for your efforts.

          My needs with the tree control required me to hand code things a bit. The parent leafs in the tree do not contain a searchable set of data….only the child (or 3rd level child) contain the data and launch a javascript function that performs the list filter.

          Here is a video showing the concept:

          http://screencast.com/t/zQVZ8QjL83h

          Some of the branches launch the javascript function on the 2nd branch of the tree, but most launch on the 3rd….so having the onNodeClick won't work (if I understand its function correctly) because every node will not automatically launch the javascript function..it depends on what is clicked (which is why I hand coded the tree control instead of doing it with a sql call)

            Re: List control with tree control - close window after selection

            Ok, I didn't realize this was in a tabbed UI.
            I got this to work on my server using the div id of the window.
            {grid.Object}.closeContainerWindow('A5dlg0');

            If it doesn't work, use FireFox and check the DOM for the div id.
            Just a side note, if it isn't already unchecked, remove the property for "Warn before closing if component in window is dirty" from the open a ux component property window.

              Re: List control with tree control - close window after selection

              Nate,

              The issue persists even if I just test the UX component when it is not in a tabbed UI.

              I have tried these but neither work

              {dialog.Object}.closeContainerWindow(this);
              {dialog.Object}.closeContainerWindow('CONTAINER_2');

              Your suggestion to check the DOM for the div id is a good one…..I think that must be the problem. I will dig in with firebug and see what I can find.

              Thanks again for your efforts.
