Default Alpha Anywhere Windows 7 and Windows Backup and Restore Conflict

I have a windows 7 computer at work and a windows 8 computer at home. both machines have Alpha Anywhere on them. I created a workspace on the Windows 7 computer and backed it up to a flash drive. Then I took it home and tried to restore it to the windowns 8 machine. It would not restore. next, I tried to restore it to a windows 7 computer I have at home, which has Alpha 5, V10. This time it restored flawlessly. So, I concluded there is a conflict between windows 7 and windows 8 regarding backup and restore.
Anyone else having this problem? Does anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks, GJ

Copy and paste should work or zip, then copy to flash drive - paste to machine, unzip would maybe be better.

Backup and restore with MS has always been hit or miss between OS offerings. I was not even aware they still had it. I am sure I do not wish to trust it.

    Gale,

It sounds like the restore might have failed on the Win8 machine because the directory structures there were different. A restore tries to put the files in the same directories and on the same drives that they came from.

Recommend you use the "Zip" tool Alpha supplies instead.

In designing your workspace keep all your application and data files in one folder. To move a copy to another machine, close all open forms and reports, select the tools menu, and then choose the zip files option. On the target machine unzip / extract to the desired folder.
