Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Signatures on a Report -- How do I?

I have a lot of components where the user signs their name (they are mostly medical forms). Now I am making reports for all of these so my users can print them out. I need signatures to appear on these reports....how do I do this? I looked for an Alpha video on this but couldn't find one. Didn't find a past forum thread on this either.

    Thanks in advance.

I've been doing this for awhile now. Medical forms also. In the Report, edit data definition, advanced Options, override fields, pick the signature field and make the override a png type.
Then when you put the signature on the report itself it will display.

Re: Signatures on a Report -- How do I?

Lee, I have a follow up question I thought I'd ask you since you mentioned you work on medical forms too and before I create a seperate post...

Several of my forms have these body diagrams where a nurse will make markings on to indicate something, like a bruise, on a patient's arm. In my component that mimics this type of form I use a signature capture control with a body diagram as a background image. This works great for my purposes. Now I want to print this form however the image completely covers the area I put it in on the report. Not sure how I could possibly resolve this either. I thought maybe I could get the signature control to also save the background image plus the markings but there doesn't seem to be any provisions for this. Have you encountered this?

        Signature Control...

The way it appears on a report...

Here I moved the image in the report off to the side...you can see I have a "body diagram" underneath it...

If you are using a PDF you could set the Body image to a watermark.

It's Alpha that is creating the PDF however. What I did was take a screenshot of the original form. I took that screenshot and placed it in the report. Then placed my controls on top of it. Is there an alternative to creating these types of reports other than the way I just described?

Back in the early days we would send an overlay to the printer. This same effect can now be achieved by using the watermark feature. I call a PDF of a Pre-Printed form as the watermark then use the report to put data on the form. You'll find the watermark in the PDF options when you call the report.

Thank you again but the same problem persists. The image obscures what ever is behind it. I think this is because the signature capture saves the entire canvas and not just the markings that were made.

Also, how would I line up the controls in the report using this watermark method?

Have you made the background of the signature image transparent?

                  google how to do that.

Not entirely sure what you mean but the signature itself is stored in SQL as a binary field. The body diagram itself is on a PDF and the PDF is being used as a watermark on my report.

That's why I suggested that you google the topic and learn about transparent backgrounds. It's an image thing.

Oh I see now. If I could make the signature image transparent then it wouldn't completely obscure the watermark/PDF background. The issue there is Alpha doesn't offer (as far as I can tell) any settings in the report maker for this. There is no place that I see to override the CSS for the image.

I figured out a work-around. I can print to an xps file and the png transparency works. From there I can convert it to a pdf file.
