Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Login - Mobile - PhoneGap - Video UX_V12--66

I've watched the "UX_V12--66" video a few times; did a step-by-step recreation of it; and even downloaded the video component and tested it.

In both cases (mine and A's) it works via web browser without fail.

However with the PhoneGap build, it ONLY works the first login-logout. After that, it neither presents an error or accepts my login credentials.

On both I added an animation (spinner) that presents itself but does not login nor err out.

Any suggestions where to look for the PhoneGap issue? OH, tested on several Android platforms.

Tried it on various Android platforms, same result. Logs in once, then will not function pressing the LOGIN button. Not even a error when invalid credentials are presented.

It actually functioned properly a couple of times for 2 or 3 logins, and then froze up again.

Works as designed on web, but Phonegap build has some failure. Almost like the logout is not fully taking. Not sure.

Sample apps should work, especially when their purpose is to showcase mobile security, as in Phonegap built mobile-apps.

        Hi,
I had the same issue. It was an old android version (Android 2.3). I upgraded to android 4.3 then it worked perfectly..

I am not an expert but hope it helps..

          Carl,

What are the Android versions you're working with?

4.3 and 4.4 seem to be ok. Anything prior is absolute hit and miss and when you look at them, 4.2 and prior are a couple of years old. Normally that should present an issue (given you can probably run stuff on an old iPhone) but Android was a bit of a mess.

I actually can't even confirm 4.4.0 because I only started with 4.4.2 and now only work with 4.4.4. But I hear that 4.3.x and 4.4.x are workable.

            4.4.2.

Haven't worried about it for a while, but it is coming back up shortly.

              Re: Login - Mobile - PhoneGap - Video UX_V12--66

OK my problem is resolved And as usual it was my own fault In order for Phonegap to work with any application server on HTTPS - the SSL Certificate Chain file must be there and working 100% in the server's config. You can test you SSL certificate using many tools such as https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/

IF anyone has the same Chain (Intermediate) Certificate issue Phonegap will not work. In my case I had to place all my CRT files into a single bundle.crt file in the order shown below.

              yourdomain_com.crt COMODORSADomainValidationSecureServerCA.crt COMODORSAAddTrustCA.crt AddTrustExternalCARoot.crt >> ssl-bundle.crt

              Hope this helps someone!

Well I can't even FIND video UX_V12--66. Where are you watching this because my next step is to incorporate web security into a Phonegap app. Thanks! BTW I've looked in both the video finder in Alpha and on videos.alphasoftware.com as well as the Alpha Youtube channel so I'm obviously oblivious!

Thanks Carl! Just like in programming it's those pesky little details that come back to bite you (I mean you were only off by one...come on!)

                      Re: Login - Mobile - PhoneGap - Video UX_V12--66

Turns out my app might be able to avoid the mobile login process.

At the mobile, I pick up the DeviceUUID and reach to the sky for the data.
That DeviceUUID is paired to the field person and data is queued for that device.

If the guy loses or changes his device, they un-queue the data and hang it on his next mobile devices UUID.

No login, no password, the data is there or it is not. Puts it back on the data admin to let the data roam, or remain locked up.

The data is route data, with no security-sensitive data.

We'll see if they change their mind somewhere down the lane. ;^))
