Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Oh repeating section, how I loathe thee! Hide the initial blank row for repeating section

    Hi everyone,

    I have a repeating section, in which, I use a button to pop up a window container for the data to be entered for the repeating section row.

    My issue is, when the UX initially loads, there is 1 blank repeating section row. I cannot set it to 0, it must at least 1 in the properties.

    I cannot delete the initial row or I get an error.

    When my button opens the container window and the data is entered, it will add the information to the repeating section, but adds it as a second row, then 3rd, 4th, etc., with the initial row being blank.

    Is there any way I can start with NO repeating rows? Or do I need to write the logic that if the first row is blank in one of the fields (that would always have something if it was filled in), start with that one otherwise add new row?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Rebuild a light version of your repeating section and test, what you are describing sounds like a corrupted component to me. Also check there are no blank records getting shown.

      Re: Oh repeating section, how I loathe thee! Hide the initial blank row for repeating section

      you could put it in a frame with a show hide button and set the initial view to hidden with 1 row in the repeating section so when someone clicks show the repeating section shows 1 line with the opportunity to add rows
      I got a weird double entry row thing when I put -1 in the value for the number of repeating rows - switch it back to 1 and put it into a container you can then add the show hide button.

        say the repeating section in contained in a frame make that frame show/hide client side to dialog.isNewRecord = .f. the frame will disappear but I haven't tested with adding any new child records to see if this works all the way thru. the logic is there is a temp record created to have the logical binding then it is updated with real data when submitting. well I could be wrong in both counts!

        later: this while hides the frame I do not know how to make it visible if there is data. so may not be a good idea to do it.

          Re: Oh repeating section, how I loathe thee! Hide the initial blank row for repeating section

          Well, what I did is added simple javascript to the SAVE button on the pop up window.

          It checks to see if the "title" field of the first row in the repeating section is filled in with anything. If it is empty, then it will assume (because these will be READ ONLY on the UX itself) that it can use the first row, otherwise it will add additional lines, as necessary. In preliminary testing, it worked well...

          var numChar = {dialog.Object}.getValue('INTERACTIONS_CLIENTNOTES_TITLE:1').length;
          if (numChar > 0) {
          {dialog.Object}.addRepeatingSectionRow('CONTAINER_1');
          }

          I'm not sure if a list control would be better at this point, but I'm just going to go with this for now...
          Thank you everyone!!

            just so you know I have done that way with grids because it easier there ( at least this time I prefer grid to dialog) I think list control is similar to grid as far as I know if so then it will be easier.

              thank you Gandhi.. love your videos, as always! I noticed from you're from NY, do you ever come down to south jersey??

              I am not a fan of the repeating rows for all this, so I may switch over to grid or list control at some point.. for now, just for time, I'll keep using the repeating rows so I can start using the application, but i learned a few things from your videos!

              Thanks again!
