Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Printing A4v8 and dbdos 3

If it can print a file with command prompt
    copy anytextfile.txt > lpt1
    and same in DbDos
then check your printer settings in A4
else if you are using a Windows or usb printer and not parallel then
contact DbaseLLc and check your hardware and Windows printer port settings with lpt1

I have also used DOSPRN with DOS success

      Thanks Ray

      I'll try that

Will the printer be seen in a4 when I configure a windows printer? (Within A4)
I Have been using xp mode for our w7 computers.
However Slow and uncertain of the future
I was hoping DBDos 3 Idea will carry my programs into the future
      Winagent wont run in dos
We also send email conformations from a4 with outlook
Been using and building this program since 1993 and don't want to change
I have used a5 for some applications but still like a4 for quick apps

      Thanks Again

'fraid that you will have to experiment. Also refer to the Dbdos documentation
The latest one advertises multiple printer options.
I stuck with parallel ports with dot matrix with my users only in older version.
Latterly I leave this to techs, and offer telephonic suggestions from the sidelines.

Re: Printing A4v8 and dbdos 3

I wouldnt expect any problems, not had first hand testing opportunity but their support are very approachable, get assurance there.

I have meantime found and done preliminary testing on open source vDos
Presents a great size clear screen and testing alongside Clipper S87 and A5, it appears to acknowledge record and file locking. I still need more time to test but I have implemented a write back interface that is now working live. That means not permanently online but writing back batches to DOS app from A5 v10-12 and able to control when it is safe to do.
Try it out and report findings back here.

Re: Printing A4v8 and dbdos 3

                Ray
                Today
I have Dbdos Pro3 installed on 5 machines and going to give that a try
Seems like it might work . Printing, entering data, Change, and quick print to email (sort of)
Had to change macros for all the reports
Can print large reports only with direct printing and not with their enhanced printing (still working on)
The biggest problem I had was with search list and other users
In order to make work I had to erase the search list on the main menu and in the view screen every time you search (I,F4)for other users to access

We will have to see what happens
                Worried about corruption
                Keeping my fingers crossed
                Thanks

Re: Printing A4v8 and dbdos 3

Rrread the iiinstructions, load the test app.
In a nutshell.. use it exactly as you would with a DOS screen with the essential difference that you load any folder on your hard drive as a drive letter. All except Z: which is reserved for its own files.
Set up autoexec, txt to load the folder/s you want to make visible to it
                  Code:
                  USE C: c:\dos
                  use g: c:\drive_g
                  use h: c:\accts
                  use p: c:\g
rem Switch from Z: to C: (my c:\dos folder as the root of C)
                  C:

                  rem Select my c:\Dos\ac\prg folder
                  CD \ac\prg
rem set any paths I want
                  path = c:\d;c:\bats
you can path also to your A4.exe folder - if not accessible directly then USE the folder as a drive and path to that drive

Re: Printing A4v8 and dbdos 3

Just for the record for others. I was unable to get a4v8 to work with dbdos in a network. I was starting to see corrupt files. I hope this helps others.
Does any one a have a4v8 users they would like to sell? if so email me at [email protected]
                    Thanks

                      Printing A4v8 and db

lots of cases and similar floating arround, if its a usb printer, Id imagine the pi would make a good controler for network 3d printing
