    Default List - display: table-cell; scroll issue

    By default in Alpha or elsewhere the LISTS with say one or more items are scrollable top to bottom. i.e., to see more records than that are displayed, we scroll down or up.

    In a list, if I change the display of the columns to "display: table-cell" - why does the list changes automatically from a regular vertical list to a horizontal list?
    I am changing the display so that I can align the values within an item correctly.

    How to use "display: table-cell" and keep the list items scrollable as delivered.

    Thanks!

    Need a bit more info on this one.

    Where are you setting "display: table-cell"?

    Are you using a List Layout type of "Freeform"?

    David,

    I am using the regular column (not freeform) layout for the list. But the column in this is not a database column, but a added column based on <LogicalRowNumber> [in the forth tab of the list properties]. To display the line numbers.

    I just added the following in the "List item in-line style" [on the third tab of the list properties] - so that I can align that line number.
    display: table-cell;
    vertical-align: middle;
    text-align: center;
    background-position: center;
    This alignment may work without the display: table-cell; in some case as above, but not additional formatting.
    display: table-cell; is required because when I use CSS with more fancy formatting for this column it is not able to align without the this.

    When I add the "display: table-cell" lists as mentioned now become horizontally placed and need to now scroll from left to right, instead of top to bottom.

    Thanks!

    What additional CSS do you want to use for formatting and what do you want the end result to look like?

    I wanted the list row number to be enclosed in a circle, and center the circle. I was trying to make this work so that the circle does not abruptly end up on the lower side with its shadows cutoff at the bottom. So I wanted to align it at the center. "display: table-cell" worked but could not use because of the issue as mentioned above.

    Finally, I was able to solve it by placing another container around it as shown in the improved code below. Thanks for your motivation to help.

    Initial code:

    <div id='circle'> <span class='innerTEXT'>{<LogicalRowNumber>}</span></div>
    #circle {
    background: #D83737;
    width: .75in;
    height: .75in;
    border-radius: 50%;
    color:black;
    text-align:center;
    border: solid 3px white;
    box-shadow:2px 3px 5px black;
    }
    #circle .innerTEXT {
    position:relative;
    top:3px;
    left:-2px;
    color:white;
    font-size:52px;
    font-weight: bold;
    text-shadow:2px 2px 2px black;
    }
    Improved code:

    <div id='outermost'> <div id='circle'> <span class='innerTEXT'>{<LogicalRowNumber>}</span></div></div>
    #outermost {
    /* background: #FFFFFF; comment this - so that it is left transparent*/
    width: .96in;
    height: .96in;
    color:black;
    vertical-align: middle;
    text-align: center;
    /*border: solid 1px black;*/
    /* Firefox */
    display:-moz-box;
    -moz-box-pack:center;
    -moz-box-align:center;
    /* Safari and Chrome */
    display:-webkit-box;
    -webkit-box-pack:center;
    -webkit-box-align:center;
    /* W3C */
    display:box;
    box-pack:center;
    box-align:center;
    }
    #circle {
    background: #D83737;
    width: .75in;
    height: .75in;
    border-radius: 50%;
    color:black;
    text-align:center;
    border: solid 3px white;
    box-shadow:2px 3px 5px black;
    }
    #circle .innerTEXT {
    position:relative;
    top:3px;
    left:-2px;
    color:white;
    font-size:52px;
    font-weight: bold;
    text-shadow:2px 2px 2px black;
    }

    MobApp,
    Sorry, for jumping in here, but your first post mentioning, "display: table-cell", caught my eye. We're talking about a LIST control in a UX, right?
    If you inspect the html source for the element with "display: table-cell", does its container element have "display: table"?
    I know I was not able to get "display: table-cell" to work correctly until I put in at least "display: table;" for the "Column Properties / Data in-line style".

    Also, I use "Fields / Client-Side / Control Type" to "RawData" to get more precise control of what goes into a column in my LIST.

    Rich, Thanks for your input. Yes I am using LIST control in a UX. I was not able to see "display: table" in the container element.
    So I used "display: table;" for the "Column Properties / Data in-line style" as you mentioned, but in my case the list is still scrollable horizontally. Not vertically as a list generally is.
    Thanks.

    Cool what you can get done with a bucket of CSS

    CSSCircle.PNG

    Code:
    #outermost {
    /* background: #FFFFFF; comment this - so that it is left transparent*/
    width: 20px;
    height: 20px;
    margin-top:0px;
    margin-bottom:10px;
    color:black;
    vertical-align: middle;
    text-align: center;
    /*border: solid 1px black;*/
    /* Firefox */
    display:-moz-box;
    -moz-box-pack:center;
    -moz-box-align:center;
    /* Safari and Chrome */
    display:-webkit-box;
    -webkit-box-pack:center;
    -webkit-box-align:center;
    /* W3C */
    display:box;
    box-pack:center;
    box-align:center;
    }
    #circle {
    background:#3366ff;
    height: 20px;
    width: 20px;
    border-radius: 50%;
    color:black;
    text-align:center;
    border: solid 3px white;
    box-shadow:2px 3px 5px black;
    }
    #circle .innerTEXT {
    position: relative;
    padding:0px;
    margin:0px;
    top:-1px;
    left:-3px;
    color:white;
    font-size:10px;
    font-weight: bold;
    text-shadow:2px 2px 2px black;
    }
