How Do You Set Focus To A Quick Search Field?

Has anyone figured out how to do this for a grid quick search?

If I look at the quick search field in firebug, the id is "TBI_PARTS_142139SXZH.QUICKSEARCH"

I've tried this in the OnGridRenderComplete and OnGridInitializeComplete client-side javascript system events, but it doesn't work:

{grid.Object}.setFocus(TBI_PARTS_142139SXZH.QUICKSEARCH);

This just gives "TBI_PARTS_142139SXZH.QUICKSEARCH" not defined.

Suggestions anyone?

put this in the ongridrendercomplete event: $("TBI_PARTS_142139SXZH.QUICKSEARCH").focus();

"TBI_PARTS_142139SXZH.QUICKSEARCH" is the ID of an object so you cannot apply any methods to it because you first need a pointer to the object which is what "$" is doing. "$" is al alternative for document.getElementById

the {grid.Object}.setFocus() method is used to set focus to a grid row so not applicable for what you want to do.

This still doesn't work however, and returns "object doesn't support method".

I wonder if the Quick Search field simply won't or can't accept a focus() property?

It does work but I see that you now are previewing a grid only that is not in a tabbed interface (hence the "tbi" part in the ID) , preview what you have now in firefox, check the id of the quicksearch and you're good to go

Frank, yes you are very right, it works perfectly now Fantastic!

I changed it to:

$("GRID1.QUICKSEARCH").focus();

I never clued in that the grid preview and browser tabbedUI ID's would be different.

I believe "{grid.componentName}.QUICKSEARCH" is the ID you're looking for. I *think* it should work in preview as well as published if you replace "TBI_PARTS_142139SXZH" with the {grid.componentName} placeholder...

This does work:

It is a nice solution because it behaves the same way in both preview and published modes.

Excellent! A solution for all cases is always best. And now you can have multiple instances of your grid in the same window!
