Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    QUESTION: Server Side Xbasic to Launch a Dialog on a Mobile Applicaiton

    Good Morning,

    I've been doing some server side Xbasic programming for simple SQL Lookup.
    The program works fine and does exactly it needs to do, except the last line. Which is just
    an open dialog function. It works on the Code Editor when I run it, but when I test it
    in the mobile application Working Preview it fails to load the messasge box. I'm using:

    ui_msg_box("User Found","Look up worked!",UI_ATTENTION_SYMBOL)

    Is there a better function that I should be calling to make sure I get a pop up window
    on the mobilized client side when running the XBasic code server side?
    Or am I just totally missing something?

    Thanks,

    Tony

    All the ui_ functions are desktop only functions. They are not for web applications.

    Instead, a very simple javscript alert() will do, but I'll encourage you go also get familiar with the much nicer A5.msgBox.show()

      Thank you Steve for the quick reply, I will definitely give it a try. I think I had originally used javascript alerts. But I'll play around the with msgbox. I think originally the alert message didn't come up..I could have had some syntax Issues..I'll post them what I wrote here.

        Re: QUESTION: Server Side Xbasic to Launch a Dialog on a Mobile Applicaiton

        hey Steve,

        Here is my follow up...it looks like I'm still confusing my Xbasic and my Javascript references. As I'm still very green to Alpha, I'm sure I'm going to be muddling through a bit, but with such a nice community and a load of videos, tutorials etc it can be overwhelming.

        I'm currently creating a small mobilized app, and I have simple button on a panel card. On the Click Event I have put this entire bit under the XBASIC dialog button:

        -------------beginning of snippet---------------------
        dim XAConnectionObject as sql::Connection
        dim args as sql::Arguments
        dim XAResultSet as sql::ResultSet
        dim XACountSet as sql::ResultSet
        dim XASQL as C
        dim XACountSQL as C
        dim XAHint as C
        dim XAUserCountString as C
        dim XAUserSubmittedData as C
        dim XALive as C = "FALSE"

        if XALive == "TRUE" then
        debug(1)
        XAUserSubmittedData=e.dataSubmitted.RecoverUserName
        else
        'Dummy Data For Testing
        debug(1)
        XAUserSubmittedData="[email protected]"
        end if

        XAConnectionObject.Open("::Name::XA_REPAIR")
        args.add("userfilter",XAUserSubmittedData)
        XASQL="select * from websecurityusers where Userid=:userfilter"
        XACountSQL="select count(*) from websecurityusers where Userid=:userfilter"
        XAConnectionObject.Execute(XACountSQL,args)
        XACountSet=XAConnectionObject.ResultSet
        XAUserCountString=XACountSet.ToString()

        e.javascript = "alert('hello');"
        a5_run_javascript("alert('hello');")

        ----------------------end of snippet---------------------

        Everything on the Xbasic side is working as intended. But Once I get to using the javascript portions it turns into a hot steamy mess of confusion for me. Indeed the e argument is being passed into the function. Am I missing something more obvious? Am I putting this Xbasic in the wrong place? Should I put it in the Code section of the UX Component or is putting it on the Click Event in the Button okay? I read through your post that you had written previously for something very similar, but I'm still not getting the functionality of the simple alert.

          Re: QUESTION: Server Side Xbasic to Launch a Dialog on a Mobile Applicaiton

          Hi Tony,

          I would think putting it in the click event is fine if everything is working but the javascript.

          What I would do is basically return the javascript as a return value of the function. Example:

          Function MyFunctionName as C (e as p)

          'Do some Xbasic here

          MyFunctionName = "alert('hello there');"
          END FUNCTION

          See if that works for you.. set the name of the function to the javascript you want to execute. There are probably other ways but this is a start for you. Welcome by the way!
