Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

SSL ciphers not getting PCI compliance or PFS (perfect forward secrecy) on ssllabs.com

Using Alpha Anywhere current version 2446-4365 on Windows Server 2008, openssl 1.0.1i , a valid SSL cert from a valid CA, and the cipher suite (default) or those at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Security/Server_Side_TLS (as referenced in this forum) I can get TLS 1.0,1.1, or 1.2 when testing on ssllabs.com (Qualsys) with either 126 or 256 bits. The grade is A-. The problem is that it shows not PCI compliant. It does show SSLv2 all ciphers disabled and SSLv3 available. How can we turn both of these OFF? Furthermore the report shows that PFS (perfect forward secrecy) is not available on any of the browser/cipher combos.

It should be noted that using an apache server (v2.2.15) with the same wildcard cert and ciphers, openssl 1.0.1e and Centos 6.5 I gets PCI compliance and PFS. In apache the SSLv2 and SSLv3 can easily be turned off with a directive (not a cipher).

Any suggestions on getting both PCI and PFS?

    Brad

    Bump!

Now experiencing the same problem with Windows Server 2012 and Alpha Anywhere 2689-4440 (latest production release). Using OpenSSL 1.0.1l. Have tried removing ciphers list to use default or links found from this board. ssllabs now rates "C" due to SSLv3 ciphers being allowed. Vulnerable to POODLE sslv3 but not POODLE tls. Everything else is fine. Cannot get PFS even though I have numerous servers which are using same cert which get an "A" rating and PFS. This is not a trivial problem as it is necessary for PCI.

      Brad,
I also have this problem, although I need to support some older browsers types, but you can resolve this by adding:-SSLv3 to the end of the cipher list. Only problem I have is that this is too restrictive, as ie11 is the only supported ie with this config.

        Stu:

I have not been able to resolve with Alpha Anywere server (even pre-release). I am currently testing IIS version as it DOES resolve the problem. I now have better control over SSL with IIS settings. I can get an "A" rating and PFS as long as I use IIS.

          Brad,
Unfortunately, I do not have this luxury as the site is already up. You can remove SSLv3 with the :-SSLv3 switch at the end of the cipher list on the SSL tab or upgrade the cipher suite shown at the end of this post. This will only allow TLS1.2 which is probably for the best, but the downside is third parties will be forced to use newer browsers – which most of them don’t. If you disable SSLv3 this will also disable ciphers for TLS 1.0 and 1.1.

Actually you can use IIS on the same server as Alpha Server (standalone) by changing the port for one of them. I am doing exactly that for testing purposes on a site that is used everyday by mobile and desktop users. I had very little change to migrate to IIS and those changes work with the latest stand alone server.

              My 2 cents:
I added !RC4 at the end of the SSL ciper list for Alpha [or SSLCipherSuite if using apache]. Adding this will not support RC4. It bumped my rating to A on https://www.ssllabs.com, but the risk is older browsers may not be able to handle it. For mobile devices that may not be issue since they are fairly new.
Or you may use +RC4 RC4 this uses RC4 only as the last resort. But this lowers rating to B.
I had hard time balancing the SSL rating and supporting older browsers. So depends on your target audience.

              Regards!
