Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

List Control Error - The database could not find the data you requested

    Hello all,

I am trying to create a list control for a CRUD interface for users. I am trying to make it so it can add/edit the user in the security framework, as well as the user's information in the database. The list seems to be working fine; I see one user in the list, which is currently all I have in the database. When I try to edit any information about the user, click save, and then synchronize, I get this error: The database could not find the data you requested. Whenever I try to add a new user, click save, and then synchronize, I get this error: Table not found.

I am running on build 2399_4351, and the database we are using is a SQL Server 2012.

If you need anymore information, please let me know.

    Update,

I updated my build to the latest: 2446_4365, but the error is still there. Anybody have any idea what this error means, and what I have to do to fix it?

      UPDATE:

After much testing, I found where the issue was. If I have a field that has a value of NULL, and try to change it to an actual value, I get the first error mentioned (The database could not find the data you requested). If the field simply contained an empty value, then I am able to update fine, without any errors.

This seems like a bug, but I'm not sure where to report it as such.

Re: List Control Error - The database could not find the data you requested

I had an issue with a cascading dropbox control where the value displayed is not equal to the value being stored - furthermore, the value being stored is in another column that's not actually shown.

With "Check for write conflicts" enabled for that field:

UPDATE vwDiscrepancyReview SET DiscrepancyCodeID = :New_EXACTISSUE WHERE ([entryID] = :PKValue_1) AND ((DiscrepancyCodeID = :Old_EXACTISSUE OR DiscrepancyCodeID IS NULL AND :Old_EXACTISSUE IS NULL))
        :new_exactissue (C) 32
        :old_exactissue (Z) (Null)
        :pkvalue_1 (N) 93851
With "Check for write conflicts" disabled for that field:
UPDATE vwDiscrepancyReview SET DiscrepancyCodeID = :New_EXACTISSUE WHERE ([entryID] = :PKValue_1)
        :new_exactissue (C) 32
        :old_exactissue (Z) (Null)
        :pkvalue_1 (N) 93851
I'm guessing that this has something to do with the SQL statement not being able to find a record matching the previous value...

Re: List Control Error - The database could not find the data you requested

I've got this same problem with the "database could not find the data you requested" error message. I've cleared all of the checkboxes for "check for write conflicts" on the fields for the list that is throwing the error but, I'm still getting it. It seems to be inconsistently happening to various users. I'm on version 12.4.2 build 3674

I think it might be an error is logic type of bug. If you look at the code you will never find the data. It is looking for a NULL and you have put in a value.

It's my suspicion the new code generated by the LIST does not include all the fields - I have reported this.. the last resort work around to fix the issue is to delete the list, redo the bindings and you will find it will work fine.

Re: List Control Error - The database could not find the data you requested

                    Thanks for the input!!!

The "Blank is NULL" checkbox has been cleared for each field since we created this List on the app.

So, delete the list and re-create it and map the fields in the Detail View again? I'll give that a shot. That could be the issue since this list has been on my app through several versions of Alpha.

                    Thanks again.

Thats a good reason to clean it up. See what happens. Also check any other tables if you have connected that are intended read only, ensure you don't have the auto increment set and they are also set to readonly.

Re: List Control Error - The database could not find the data you requested

I have just run into this issue, A UX with a List+Detail that has been around for a year or so working perfectly (though not used heavily) Get a call today that this error is happening, Had to go and clear out all the "check for write conflicts" on the fields for the list and Hey Presto, no error, I have updated Alpha server a few weeks back so something in the update broke the list.
This is frustrating to say the least. I am glad I saw this thread.
I suspect if we re-built the list then it would work with "check for write conflicts" turned on... But you shouldn't have to rebuild lists after an update.

                          Yes it's a problem...

I can confirm if you globally change the ..

                          .detailView.checkforwriteConflicts = .T.

                          .detailView.checkforwriteConflicts = .F.

                          It solves the immedate problem..

To globally change them click the Xbasic tab at the bottom - right click, then search and replace, then click settings again.

Just spent 90 minutes on this very issue. I thought my head was someplace it shouldn't be. Turning off "Check for write conflicts" for the affected fields "fixed" the problem. I say "fixed" because I shouldn't have to turn this property off. This error only appears if the field is NULL in SQL. Once the field is blank or some other value the problem doesn't reoccur.
