Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How is the Web Application go into disconnected mode to a tablet?

Never tested yet any disconnected feature of AA. Once the inventory application for example is live and I have no internet connection now and I use a Tablet device to access the url, of course it will not connect, my question would be, how will I use the application on my tablet to do sales and receive inventory items if it cannot connect to the internet? Where will the tablet get its data and the user interface if there is no internet connection?

    Hi
As far as I know you need an internet connection to open the URL and populate the lists. After that if you get disconnected you can keep working till you have a connection again then you have to re-synchronize...

    Hope it helps

Whichever records are retrieved when you search [before the internet connection lost], stay in the UX/list for you to view and modify. You may add new records too. If you have dropdown for some fields, you may during design elect to retrieved them when the UX is initialized, instead of doing AJAX dynamically. This enables you to select from the dropdown list even in disconnected state.

      regards.

Re: How is the Web Application go into disconnected mode to a tablet?

        Hi all,
I believe Jetson's concern is the following:
        • In the mobile application, assuming you have to login, if there is no internet, you will not be able to even open the application.
        • After login, the application may have a session timeout and will log you out, so how the user will continue to work offline?

I have not done anything with mobile yet, but I would guess that this mobile application would need the following:
        1. Distributed and installed in the mobile device via PhoneGap.
        2. Logic most be coded to leave the application running even after there being disconnected.
        3. I would guess that if the application is closed in the device that it would ask to log in again, then some logic must be added to detect if it is working offline and bypass the login (that could be a security breach)

I believe the Alpha Team or a developer with a real mobile application should explain here what would be the way to deal with this kind of application from AA view.

          hello,
Just happen to read the post. I am not an expert about webpages nor AA, since I'm still new to them. But I'll try if I can help.
If you mean that your tablet is used within the same area/branch of your company and you are updating the server within that branch, I think you can still access the webpage or the url as long as you are connected to your Wireless-LAN.
In my company here,we have the same application where in we plan to use a tablet to bin and pick items through a5 webpage so that the database system will be updated immediately after a certain item is binned or picked.
We've tested it using WLAN and it works without internet connection.

I hope I am not making a mesh out here.

Thanks all for the replies, Edhy you are close to what I mean. Hope alpha experts can answer our queries.

From what I understand from the Alpha Anywhere feature of disconnected mode is that, I still can use the web app (invoicing) offline all day and upload all the sales transactions later, maybe in the afternoon, the next day or even next month when internet connection resumes. my question is that , how can I go to the user interface or how can I load the user interface where we do the invoice data entry if there is no connection?

Jetson, if it's a native app via PhoneGap, the app is downloaded and installed on the device and will remain there until uninstalled. If you're working solely in browsers, you'll have to look to the App Cache (http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...w-do-I-add-one).
