Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Using SQL I presume? Is this a logical field set up as TinyInt?

        Steve, yes and yes.
        David, I looked at that thread earlier but I can't see how that applies to my case since I just want to display the existing data from an int(1) field in the table or I still am just not getting it. I will look at the video.
        Thanks for the help.

          How about inserting a dynamic image? I do this quite a bit.

            Thanks Steve, that was my first thought, however i don't see any dynamic properties for images in the list control. I will look again.

            nevermind.... there it is... thanks

              Re: display logical field as checkbox in a list control

              Still having a slight issue with this. I have a dynamic image set up in the list. When the value is true the checked image show properly. I can't figure out how to make the unchecked image show. for the conditions I am using 'print' which is the logical int(1) field which shows up as type (L) in the field list.
              so for the true condition i just use 'print'. For the false condition I have tried '! print','print = false', 'print = False',print = "false"' print = 0', 'print = .f.'. None of these shows the unchecked image.
              If I set the condition to client side I only get the checked image.
              Any ideas?

                  Your conditions are in Javascript code not Xbasic, use true/false to compare the values and make sure the "Evaluate conditions" is setup as "Client-side). See image below.

                    Thanks everyone for your help. Edhy I hear what you are saying but I did try that and I could only get the checked image to show. I can't explain why it is not working for me either.
                    David, I used your method and it works as advertised. I wish I knew half as much about alpha's inner workings as you do. Thanks so much for your help.

                        Interestingly if I put the false condition first it works. I guess I should have known that. Even though it is a little more wordy I like the result using David's method because the checkbox style matches the rest of my checkboxes. Thank you so much for your help.

                          For my logical fields I always set the property in AA to be treated as a logical field, then test in the client side, but it is always good to see different ways to deal with the same situation and adapt the best one for the project.

                          Hmmm, I also use MS SQL but for logical fields I always used "Bit" field type instead of TinyInt even-though at the end it is all just 0/1.

                          I watched David Kates video and it is an interesting approach and I am sure I will use some of that logic sometime, I will also agree with Frank that because of the style of the checkbox being draw by the browser it looks better than showing an image. Perhaps AA can implement this logic for showing True/False 0/1 checkboxes automatically.

                            Re: display logical field as checkbox in a list control

                            Yay! I just used David's tips from the video and that is working great for me. So, of course.... now I want something to happen when user clicks the checkbox. I want to call a javascript function that will trigger an ajax callback to update the value in my field when a user clicks the checkbox.

                            Below is my current template (which works but passes no value to the function). I am failing in passing the value from the field into my javascript function poCheckMark() . The name of my field is USE_PO and I have tried onclick = "poCheckMark('{USE_PO}') and I have tried onclick = "poCheckMark({USE_PO}) and I get errors. I have tried putting a semi colon after the last parenthesis and I still get errors.

                            the following works as a template calls my function just giving an alert, but of course I need the value and need to do some if statements with it...
                            Code:
                            <input type="checkbox" name="poCheckbox" id="poCheckbox{<ZeroBasedRowNumber>}" onclick = "poCheckMark()">

                              Re: display logical field as checkbox in a list control

                              Here's is how I've done the "real" working checkbox part...

                              This is my List Layout...

                              Code:
                              <input type="checkbox" name="checkbox" id="checkbox{<ZeroBasedRowNumber>}" onclick="clickCheckbox({<ZeroBasedRowNumber>});" value="value">
                              {Firstname} {Lastname} {City}
                              This means I'm showing a checkbox, Firstname, Lastname and City

                              I don't think you can put anything into the onclick function call except one of the system placeholders... iow... no data... but you don't need to.

                              The js function, clickcheckbox, can get whatever you need.

                              Here, I'm getting the value of the Firstname in the row I clicked... and I'm turning the checkbox on or off, depending on it's starting value...

                              Code:
                              function clickCheckbox(row){

                              var currState = $('checkbox'+row).checked;

                              var fn = {dialog.Object}.listGetValue('list1','FIRSTNAME',row);

                              {dialog.Object}.__checkRow = row;

                              if (currState == true){
                              	setTimeout("$('checkbox'+{dialog.Object}.__checkRow).checked=true;",50);
                              	}
                              	else
                              	{
                              	setTimeout("$('checkbox'+{dialog.Object}.__checkRow).checked=false;",50);
                              	}

                              }
                              Is that what you needed to do?
