Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: display logical field as checkbox in a list control

    David, the component you sent back is one that I would have to do a lot of work on to make it work from my deployment server with my real data, so I just put your line of template code in my real component and deployed it.

      David, nothing else happens at the time that value in the textbox is set, no event. Later when user tries to leave the component, I check to see if the value in that textbox is yes, and then force the looping of the list control to get primary keys, and then I callback to update the records all at once.

        Really not sure. I can't see how a .setValue to a TextBox control could interfere with the List checkbox. This is why it's always best to post samples that are as close as possible to what you're actually doing... otherwise it's all just a guess... and usually results in... "but it's not working here".

          David, I hear you, but I put that line in my real component after I sent you the component. Anyway, it appears to be working on ipad now, so thank you again!

            Excellent to hear. Styling the Checkbox is something else you could add... if you've not already. Under a current Alpha release there's a lot you can do with it. There's a CSS Tab available to the List Control.

              Re: display logical field as checkbox in a list control

              Just an update to the work I've been doing with this. After check marking a checkbox using David's technique, I realized that the row in the list control was not getting focus. I needed it to get focus because I have to react to another value in that row and run an action that uses the value. So.... after searching the forum, (thank you forum!), I found what I needed and added these lines into the javascript function clickCheckbox :

              Code:
              //This gets a pointer to the list control and then sets focus on the row where checkbox was just clicked
               	var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
               	listObj.setValue(row);
              In case anyone is interested, this is my entire javascript function:
              Code:
              function clickCheckbox(row){
              	//This gets a pointer to the list control and then sets focus on the row where checkbox was just clicked
               	var listObj = {dialog.object}.getControl('LIST1');
               	listObj.setValue(row);

              	var currState = $('checkbox'+row).checked;

              	{dialog.Object}.__checkRow = row;

              	if (currState == true){
              		setTimeout("$('checkbox'+{dialog.Object}.__checkRow).checked=true;",50);
              		{dialog.object}.setValue('NEEDS_CHECKBOXES_UPDATE','Yes');
              		{dialog.object}.runAction('CheckForRetainageVendorWhenCheckedToPay');
              	} else	{
              		setTimeout("$('checkbox'+{dialog.Object}.__checkRow).checked=false;",50);
              		{dialog.object}.setValue('NEEDS_CHECKBOXES_UPDATE','Yes');
              	}
              }

                Re: display logical field as checkbox in a list control

                Carol,

                This is one of the nice things about Alpha evolution. Stuff like row selection and interaction with what's on that row are not tied together. At one point you couldn't separate a click from a select.

                You can slim your code down a bit if you want to. You don't have to go get your List Control... you already have it.

                Comment out the .getControl() and change your .setValue() to this...

                Code:
                this.listObj.setValue(row);

                  Re: display logical field as checkbox in a list control

                  Thanks, David. I tried commenting out the .getControl() and changing the .setValue() to code you suggested, but apparently it didn't like something about it because it made my function not do anything. That's OK, the function is working as I had it, so I'm good.
