Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Shortcuts for moving from grid with UX to List Control with Detail View?

    Hi
I have a CRUD grid with UX for adding/editing records, and i would like to move it to a list control with detail view. Do i have to start building it from scratch, or did anybody come up with a method to copy at least the fields from my current UX to the new list detail view?

    Thanks
    Jaime

Your statement seems a little contradictory - grid or UX? For a grid I think you have to rebuild from scratch. No conversion method that I am aware of. If copying form a UX to another UX just use the UX menu to copy/paste.

I currently use a grid with a search part to show my reservations. The user can either click on a button that calls a UX to enter a new reservation, or click on the ReservationID link to open that same UX in editing mode. I would like, instead, to have a UX with a list control that will replace the current grid functionality and list detail view that will replace the current UX that serves for adding/editing. It's a 120 or 130 fields UX that's why i asked if somebody came up with a shortcut :-)

        Jaime,

The list with detail view is simply a list control that you define a query for and then connect it to other controls on the UX. The controls themselves aren't data-bound to a query, only the list. So *theoretically* you could take your existing UX, add a list control that queries the same data as the grid, remove data bindings on the other controls and associate the other UX controls to the new list control instead. Put the controls in a container shown/hidden as a window or panel or something so it looks and works more like a separate detail view. You'll then have to change the Save and Undo button functions to save to the list and alter any scripts that run after saving, etc.

It's not something I'd had to think about yet, but if it works as I describe it, it's actually not bad...

Yup, that's what i intended to do, i.e attach existing fields to a list control after removing binding stuff, particularly since there are many callbacks and specific validation functions in the existing fields. Oh well, i think that's not gonna be as mean as i thought in the first place :-)

            Jaime,

            I would concur with Chris.
Though... I have found that an 'old' UX can get a bit messed up when you turn into an unbound 'New' list driven UX
But maybe that was caused by other issues.

Worst-case you create a new List driven UX and them copy past the fields from your Old UX

That's what i was thinking of doing, then just copy-paste all javascript and xbasic functions
