Default Import ASCII - Get "Could not import ascii data into temporary .dbf......"

Could not import ascii data into a temporary .dbf table - Part 4. Error: Temporary table was not created. Please check that the file you are importing has fieldnames in the first row.

Definitely has column headings. Imports properly into Excel. Other manually built text files import properly.

Text file type? Has CRLF (x0D0A in file) UTF-8 no BOM, .... tried all the combos ....

    =============================

Tried to upload versions of the file ... got an INVALID FILE from this forum site. File was not open elsewhere.

    @#$%^& TEXT FILES!

    Clues needed. Frustrated.

Both documents import fine here in V11.

    Outline the steps you're taking.

SQL table, identical field names. Simple Grid - updateable - SQL.

Action Javascript, Import Excel or Ascii. Testing with Live Preview. I'm v12, latest builds.

Went to upload CSV file to this forum and it said INVALID FILE. ZIPPED it and attached it again. See Host_R2.Zip.

THANKS for taking a swing at it. Makes no sense. Should have been done in 30 minutes, messed around all day so far.

I was working with dbf since the import error mentioned temporary .dbf. No clues on the sql import.

I thought the same (DBF) but did it with a small, hand entered CSV and it worked and populated data in the SQL table.

Import is rather useless if it gags on an SQL table.

If I find anything that fixes it, I'll be sure to post it.

I created a DBF so I'd be playing entirely in DBF.

I also took an Excel SS, Exported it to CSV, then tried to IMPORT it, .....

    Same error. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

GOT IT! The CSV line with the Column names had blanks.

    A,B,C,D
    1,2,3,4
    3,4,5,6

    Works

    A, B, C, D
    1,2,3,4
    3,4,5,6

    Fails

The SPACES by the COLUMN names gags up the import function.
