Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Showing report filter parameters on report

    There used to be a System field that would display your report selection criteria on the report. I believe it was named "filter" but it is no longer there. Can anyone tell me how to do that? Thanks!

    Open the Drag Drop list from the Task List menu while in design mode for your report. Check the System variables. You'll want "current_filter".

            Edit..

            Sorry I didn't see your image until just now.

            Do you see the same list using Alpha Sports?

            What build of A5v11 are you using?

            I'm using Build 3788. My System variables list is different from yours. Mine was produced while designing the Customer List report in AlphaSports.

                Strange. You could create a report calculated field.

                filt = current_filter_expn()

                  that didn't work. I created the calc field and this is the filter (year = 2013 ) .and. (totalcharge > 500.00 )

                  but it only printed .t. on the report

                      Hi Chuck,
                      Take a look at the DockPanels subdirectory and see what date the xml files have for the editors. Mine are all dated 3/22/2013. As are the system.aex and alpha5.aex and most of the dll's in the exe directory. You might have a dll that needs to be registered...look for the Registerfiles.bat and run that.

                        I just checked all those files and they are also dated 03/22/13. I also just ran the Registerfiles.bat and went back in the report editor. The System screen still does not have any options after PageCount.

                          I was at home when I checked the directory there; here at work the dates are 9/19/13. You can open the .bat file in a text editor and try copy & paste to register the files individually. Or maybe you need to reinstall the update?

                            See if you can create a calculated field like the expression

                            filt = SYSTEM->Current_Filter

                            and have it evaluate.

                            Nah, doesn't work. Have to drag-drop the system field. Go figure.

                              Chuck, tell us about your setup. On my Win 7 Pro machine I have a complete list of System variables in vers 9, 10, 11, and 12.

                              What's your operating system?

                              Do you have the same issue with earlier versions of Alpha Five?

                              Do you have multiple monitors?

                              Increase the screen resolution to max and try to determine if you have any dialogs popping up "off screen" when using your standard display resolution.
