Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Using JSON table to populate UX Component

    Hi,

    Just wondering if JSON table can be used to populate the UX Component?

    Thanks,

    Pevisha

    Overall, yes.

    It's not really a JSON table... rather JSON data. Do you have JSON data in a table? In a file?

      Re: Using JSON table to populate UX Component

      Hi David,

      I just created a JSON file which is something like:

      {"Questions":[
      {"Questions":"Name"},
      {"Questions":"Address"},
      {"Questions":"Phone"}
      {"Questions":"Email"}
      ]}

      I want to be able to write the data from JSON file to static text in a UX.

      Thanks,

      Pevisha

        Re: Using JSON table to populate UX Component

        Pevisha - you've now asked for two different things:

        1. Populate a UX component, which suggests populating more than one field/control, and
        2. Write to a static text in a UX which suggests putting the values into a single static text control.

        Please clarify which you want here?

          Hi Steve,

          Either would work actually. I was thinking of using more than one static text. Each static text corresponding to a question. The reason I chose static text was because I did not want the users to change it but I am assuming I could use other fields/controls and change their editing property.

            I think I understand. You want to take a JSON object and populate a series of Static Text controls. Your JSON object contains the "Labels" of those controls. As if you're building a UX through code... kind of. You will already have the controls in the UX waiting... you're just assigning values.

            The attached UX will take your JSON object and populate both Textbox controls and Static Text controls with the values in that object. You're just looping through the JSON.

              Hi David,

              Thank you so much, that is exactly what I was looking for. Just one more question though, is it possible to maintain a separate file containing just the JSON data?

                Re: Using JSON table to populate UX Component

                I would store your JSON data as a string in a sql table. You're building variable UX forms, sort of, so you'll need to get that data easily. You'd know what form you want to build, so go after that JSON which is sitting in a record in a sql table.

                  Thanks David,

                  I will definitely try it that way. :)

                    jeez you could use node.js and build a UX almost instantly....right?
