Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hide List if no records

    Is there a way to hide a list control if there are no records in it? I use a few list controls on the dashboard, so when a user logs in, the lists show tasks due, messages waiting, validations due, etc. But if there are no records, then that list can just be hidden.

    Give this a try... in the List Control event onBeforeListDraw

    Code:
    if (data.length == 0){
    	{dialog.Object}.setControlDisplay('LIST1', false);
    }

      Thank you David, that works. It does leave a bold line where the list would be. Any idea what would I need to do to remove the line?

        Yes... I see that... I thought it was something else in my UX.

        To do this, you'll need to wrap your List in a Container. And then hide the container... instead of the List.

        Code:
        $('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.CONTAINER_1').style.display="none";

            That worked great David. Setting the Prevent Container Float property kept them all pushed to the top without spaces too.
            Thank you very much.

              Is there any way to hide the list control when "Fill Container" is enabled? I am only able to hide it when "Fill Container" is disabled.

              Thanks

                Hi Dave,
                I tried it with the fill container selected and it still hid it.
                I have each of my lists in a container, and this in the lists onbeforedraw property.

                if (data.length == 0){
                {dialog.Object}.setControlDisplay('LSTAIR', false);
                $('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.CONTAINER_AIR').style.display="none";
                }

                  here is a screenshot of the ux with the lists. My lists are in a tab pane and not in a panel, which may make the difference.

                    Thanks for the reply Travis. I was not able to open your attachment by the way.

                    I think there is a difference when the list control is in a panelcard vs. a container or tab pane. I have a panellayout with two panelcards. The first panelcard contains some controls for the upper half of the panellayout and the second panelcard contains a list control with "fill container" enabled which displays in the lower half of the panellayout.

                    I think hiding works when the list control is wrapped inside of a container or tab pane which has a defined height. When the list control is not wrapped in a container with a defined height, you can no longer hide it.

                      Hmmm, don't know what went wrong there Dave. It appeared to upload correctly. I don't use panelcards......yet, anyway. So I am not much help on this.

                        Re: Hide List if no records

                        I just tried this using a PanelLayout - TTB, which contained 2 PanelCards. The first Panelcard contains some Textbox controls. The 2nd Panelcard contains a List Control - Fill Container. The List Control is wrapped in a Container. Using the code below, in the List control event onBeforeListDraw, when the List control does not contain any records, it hides very nicely. I don't see an issue wrapping the List Control in a Container - no reason that I can think of not to.

                        Code:
                        if (data.length == 0){
                        	$('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.CONTAINER_1').style.display="none";
                        }
                        You do not need to hide the List control itself... just the Container control.

                          Re: Hide List if no records

                          I think I missed the part about inserting the code in the onBeforeListDraw event. I ended up implementing it a different way by hiding the panelcard inside the panellayout instead. This worked out better because I needed the ability within my TTB panellayout to hide either the upper panelcard or the lower panelcard containing the list control.

                          Thanks
