Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Chart Data Series not showing in Dialog Properties

    I have tried everything to get the Data Series to show in my dialog properties after adding a chart control. I have re-installed A5v11; and I started from the first update all the way to the current version and still no luck. I am currently operating on Windows 7 Professional. Does anyone have any more suggestions? I called Alpha Software Customer Service and he stated nothing he could do.

    Re: Chart Data Series not showing in Dialog Properties

    Can you give a little more detail.

    What are you trying to do with a chart?
    Where do you want to display it?
    Is the data Dynamic or static?

      Re: Chart Data Series not showing in Dialog Properties

      Michael,

      I am using version 11 and when I place a chart on my dialog it will not display the data series in the property area. I am trying to connect my chart to an embedded grid that I placed in my dialog. I want it to be dynamic and as the embedded grid information changes so will the chart. I contacted customer service at alpha and pretty much was told there is nothing they can do to help.

        Earl

        This is not a problem.

        Here is some code taken from Google.

        <html>
        <head>
        <script type="text/javascript" src="https://www.google.com/jsapi"></script>
        <script type="text/javascript">
        google.load("visualization", "1", {packages:["corechart"]});
        google.setOnLoadCallback(drawChart);
        function drawChart() {

        var data = google.visualization.arrayToDataTable([
        ['Task', 'Hours per Day'],
        ['Work', 11],
        ['Eat', 2],
        ['Commute', 2],
        ['Watch TV', 2],
        ['Sleep', 7]
        ]);

        var options = {
        title: 'My Daily Activities'
        };

        var chart = new google.visualization.PieChart(document.getElementById('piechart'));

        chart.draw(data, options);
        }
        </script>
        </head>
        <body>
        <div id="piechart" style="width: 900px; height: 500px;"></div>
        </body>
        </html>

        If you cut and paste this code into an A5w page or a Html page it will display a pie chart.

        This piece here is defining the display

        ['Task', 'Hours per Day'],
        ['Work', 11],
        ['Eat', 2],
        ['Commute', 2],
        ['Watch TV', 2],
        ['Sleep', 7]
        ]);
        This is the part that you need to dynamically link to your grid. There are a number of ways of doing this.

        You can build it with xbasic
        You can build it with SQL
        or you can use client side templating

        In V11 Alpha do not have client side templating. I have used moustache in V11 and it works well.

        I can help you achieve this but you need to tell me where you are comfortable.
        I am good in MySQL and have played with Moustache.
        Selwyn shows how to build this with xBasic.

        I have made a small video of the process I think you want

        http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...tingData_1.swf
        http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...tingData_2.swf
        http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1...tingData_3.swf

        So Selwyn explains the basic idea. This is for V12 where Alpha have an event that is not present in V11
        You will need to build you chart manually but this is easy.
