Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

How do you collapse and show rows in each Group in a list control in UX component

When you turn on Grouping in a Grid component, you can set the properties so that the rows in the grid can collapse and expand in the group. How do you do this in a UX component for a list control? You can group the records in list control, but I don't see how you can collapse the rows in a group and this would be extremely helpful in a mobile application

In the video finder search for expand then look in the UX section, I have a few lists that do this, a bit of work but great effect

Thanks for the direction. This is helpful, but doesn't really apply to expand and collapsing of summary row groups in a list control that presents data in subgroups such as companies group alphabetically, where you can click on the alphabet group heading to expand the view of all companies that fall into that group, say company names starting w/ "A."

There is currently no List Control option for doing this. I'll bet there will be one day.

However, there's nothing to prevent you from violating a dozen List Control, Alpha and Javascript rules to produce the effect. The List in the DOM is literally a list of items. You have to find a way to get at the Group item... and then a way to hide and show the items within that group. Then you have to figure out how to get the Group item to respond to a touch and/or click. It's not pretty... but here it is...

That's exactly what I'm looking for. Now I need the developer to provide his coding to accomplish this. The YT video just shows it in operation. I've left a post hoping he will do so.

Sure would be nice if Alpha added this type of functionality soon. After all, it is a pretty common and quite useful mobile UI approach -- it's called "bellows."

I was discussing this with a colleague of mine yesterday and, although it's a cool effect, we were trying to see why it would be important. It was interesting to code because I enjoy messing with Alpha's DOM. However, with the Navigator in place, it doesn't really do much more for you. The Navigator can be tapped or swiped (which is very cool). I'd be interested to find out why it's needed. Thanks.

One of my uses (already working) is a list showing purchase header details (PO No, supplier name, job name and date) when double tapped it expands to show the purchase items for that purchase order. I find this neater than a child list.

Is each Purchase Item a row in the List? Or have you implemented the Row Expander for the List Control?

Each purchase item is not a row in a list only the purchase header details are in the list, they are in a div which is populated by an ajax callback as in Selwyn's video UXL_V12-32 which gives the impression of a row expander

Yes... that's what I thought it might be... detail info for a row... in a row expander.

What I'm trying to determine is an interesting use case for collapsing/opening List Rows within a Group... when the List Group Navigator already supplies a very fast navigation tool.

A few use cases that come to mind: A sub-pane (e.g., a list of incoming flights for an airport, click one to see a limited amount of detail, such as expected arrival time, terminal, and luggage carousel); a sub-selection list (e.g., a list of airlines, click one to show a sub-list of airplanes in its fleet, click an airplane to show a limited amount of detail in a sub-pane, such as capacity, maximum distance, maximum speed.) This ("bellows") is certainly not as popular interface as the accordion, but it can be very useful if a list selection shows limited amount of detail, because collapsing/expanding lists provide you better visual context to the parent list than a sliding accordion would.

I am currently working on a survey application where people drill down a few levels of question categories (I use accordion for that, which makes sense because the lower levels have too many sub-categories for an expanding list.) However, at the bottom of the category stack there is a single spinner selection control. In this case expanding an item in the last category list would be great, because the last category selection would simply expand to show the spinner right under it. Since expanding list is not available natively in A5, I'm using accordion on this one, too. jQuery would actually provide expanding/collapsing lists, but inserting it into a relatively complex A5 UX component would likely break things in the accordion and wreak too much havoc in general to justify the effort just for a slightly better UI/UX. As it is, I provide drill-down context in the panels by showing the "drill-down path" on top of each each accordion pane, much like you would see on web-site drill-down links. Not bad, but could be better.

Here's the example UX. This is very heavy DOM processing... so... not the best way to go. Really just an experiment in List manipulation.

The screenshot attached is for the AlphaDAO connection name used, the table and field names.
