Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Finding it extremely difficult to locate any basic tutorials/guides.

    hi guys,

I purchased Alpha Anywhere and I am becoming extremely frustrated. I have little experience using
RAD software. I come from C#/Java background.

The sample app tutorial is great and well done and now I can do everything I learned from that. But
the problem starts when I try doing more than what was shown in there.

Trying to use the integrated security features has been a uphill battle. I cant seem to find any
resources on how to implement them.

The video library has some videos on security but nothing at all relevant to actually creating
and setting up the security. I simply need to set it up and be able to have people log in. But
I cant seem to find anything.

In the wiki/video library/alpha software YouTube channel there are no basic security guides.

I seriously don't know what to do or where to look. Security is only my first struggle I imagine.

I need some resources or help. Please. Maybe I'm missing some pivotal site that I should be
looking at? If there are any recommended books I should buy please tell me. Any help will
    be appreciated.

I've seen some books on the (removed broken link) site but
it looks like none of them are relevant to the mobile application development or new alpha anywhere.

    Please give me some advice.

hope you are using sql for security.
here is a link for setting up in sql, this probably little outdated since they can create the tables for you. but the steps are the same.
setting up dbf based security is very simple. i don't do dbf, so i don't have any links to show you.
good luck. post back if you need further assistance

Thanks so much for your reply GGandi. I will go check that out. Could you give me some advice on books/resources available to help me get the hang of AA?

as my signature says I am on the version 11, will not move to version 12 aka alphaanywhere, ( not sure it will take you anywhere).
so I cannot give you books/literature on it. but if you have some questions post back or in private messages I will show you how it can be done.
really speaking it is not that difficult. just takes some patience.
        thanks for reading

In fact there is no updated single place documentation anymore . Alpha Anywhere was before Alpha Five so you find the basic documentation in Alpha five wiki.
Then you must google alpha five release notes. Start reading from version 10.

Not much has happen in security in last two years. From release notes you can see that not much has happen either in xbasic since version 11 came out.

I do not think there is up to date documentation for Alphas js framework anywhere. Something is in release notes and in components help places and in old wiki .

And of course do not forget little video library :)

Not sure I understand your comment. I take it to mean, AA is the predecessor to A5. Surely, that is not what you meant. Is it?

Gillan, the easiest and fastest way yo get answers is to post your questions on the message board. It saves a lot of headaches and frustration. Simply provide enough details about what it is you want to do.

Don't know how that could be since the current version is referred to as Alpha Anywhere. Why do you believe AA preceded A5?

If you want to google release notes from Alpha before AA you find them using Alpha five key words . If this is a problem to you use your own words by all means.

You are not willing to share your reasoning and I'm not going to waste my time trying to figure out what it is. Nor am I interested in getting into a bantering contest with you.
