Run Button After Submit

Hi,

I have a button which sends out an email when you click on it, I was wondering is there a method that when the Detail View is submitted the button can be triggered as well?

I've tried running the button action as a script in the Client Side Events but nothing happens?

How is the detail view submitted?....via a "submit" button? The detail view submit probably needs a little time to finish. Try wrapping the send e-mail script in a timeout. Something like this in the submit button's onClick event.

{grid.object}.submitDetailView();

setTimeout(function(){ [COLOR="#FF0000"]YOUR EMAIL JS CODE HERE[/COLOR] }, 500);

There is a buttonClick method for a UX but I don't see an equivalent for grids.

The detail view is submitted via the usual Alpha Icon in the detail view.

Try it in the afterDetailViewSubmit client-side event.

Hi,

In my Javascript actions on the AfterDetailViewSubmit i have the following:

{grid.object}.runAction('New');

The 'New' action is just the following:

ok ...did you try my suggestion? ...wrapping your JS in a timeout? It would be...

setTimeout(function(){ {grid.object}.runAction('New'); }, 500);

What that does is when the AfterDetailViewSubmit event fires it will run your "New" JS action 500 milliseconds later.

Seems to me that should have worked.

Try this real quick in that same client-side event:

setTimeout(function(){ alert('test'); }, 500);

You should see a popup window that says test after you submit the detail view. If you don't see it change the '500' part to '2000' and try again.

Just tried that and that works fine.

Message box appears with Test. Strange how its not working to send an email.

Something seems odd here ... if you place the code in your button does the email send when you press it??

Tried running that code in a button and nothing was happening.

I then tried creating a button and taking the code from the action script to run through a button, but again nothing.

Something is amiss ...what that something is I'm not sure. Sorry.

Hopefully someone else will chime in here. I'm sure this can be automated.

here is something for you to try:
1> in the clientSideEvents, afterDetailViewSubmit: enter this line ( this assumes that you will be defining the xbasic function sendEmail.

{grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('D',1,"sendEmail");

2> open the xbasic function below the client side events and add this lines

function sendEmail as c (e as p)
	dim emailMsg as p
	emailMsg.to = "the email you want to send to"
	emailMsg.from = "email you want to send from"
	emailMsg.subject = "subject of the message you want to send"
	emailMsg.message = "the actual message"
	dim result as l = .f.
	result = email_send2(emailMsg)
	if result then
		sendEmail = "alert('message sent');"
		else
		sendEmail = "alert('message failure');"
	end if
end function

that should send standard email.
if you want to include data from the detail part (such as dynamically to the person from the detail section) then
gather them using e._currentRowDataNew etc.,
if you put a debug on top then you will know all the data available to you.
hopefully this will work for you.
I am sure someone else will give you different way to do, probably better.

if still having problem please post back I will show in a screencast.
