Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Date Range on Report

    Hello:

I am trying to create a report that uses the Define filter arguments. One of the arguments is date. When I run the report, a form appears which I am able to select arguments. The problem is that when I enter the date range it does not work. I get all the records as if I had entered nothing at all. The other augments work, its just the date that seems to be ignored.

My question how do I enter a data range so the report works properly?

This is how I am entering the date range in my form.

    Hi Reyes,

You can define arguments, but in order to filter the data, you need to include them in the WHERE clause of your Select statement.

      Re: Date Range on Report

      Earl:

I don't see an option on the report to use SQL. I only see the form that is used to select the options when i select the "Define filter arguments". This creates a from that the user fills in prior to running the report. When I run the report I fill in the date range. Unfortunately it does not give you a clue as to how to format the date. So I assumed it is Date1 - date2 or 1/1/2015 - 2/30/2015. It does not give me an error when, but the results are not filtered.

I will check to see if SQL is an option on Reports. I assume it is.

Ok - sorry - you're probably using DBFs - which is out of my area.

Date format should be mm/dd/yyyy but i don't know if a single date filter argument would allow for a date range using DBFs - maybe someone else with DBF report experience can respond?

in SQL, we define a 'startdate' and 'enddate' filter, and then in the WHERE clause, specify the filter: WHERE mydate BETWEEN :startdate AND :enddate

I also don't do with dbf but the steps are the same
go to the top on the report, click on report then select records then when the pop up comes up the top one is filter.
click the expander on the right and select your date field and arguments for example
          your_date_field > start_date argument .and. your_date_field < end_date_argument
this should bring the records in question I am sure.

edit: take a look at this screencast:

I'm pretty sure the date data field needs to be the time format too

              Gandhi

Thank you for your reply to my post. Your attached video was very educational.

Instead of using the greater then AND less than I used between(). Using Field names and Arguments.
              Field Name = Date Closed
              Arguments: Start_Date and End_Date

              between(Date_Closed,:Start_Date,:End_Date)
I also used the data type, Date and Style type, Calendar.
This helped me just use a date from a calendar and not worry about how to format the date.

Is there an advantage to using Greater and Less then or is using Between() the same thing?
