Synchronous Javascript Executions Text Mode

Can someone explain how i could write multiple javascript event actions in text mode synchronously.

There is a checkbox when using Action Javascript and that lines up your actions and executes them one at a time.

Id like to do that but my events are written in text mode and sometimes they fire out of order.

I believe you would use the A5.executeThisThenThat() function but I dont know exactly how to write it.

For example, in my app, Id like the save button to do quite a few things before it actually submits the new/modified record. Count child records list, input that count into a field in the parent list, save record, then refresh the parent list.

Each block of Javascript code you want to execute "asynchronously" must be within a function. You then call A5.executeThisThenThat() with the list of functions you've created.

Here's the tip of the month. Pretty much everything Alpha does boils down to javascript. Alpha looks after us by wrapping up what they need to do so that we don't have to do it. But... you can reverse engineer... kinda... what Alpha is doing to pick up some excellent coding techniques.

So... go and add a Button control... then in the onClick Event... add a new action... like Message Box. In fact... add 3 Message Box actions.

Then... at the bottom of the Action Javascript dialog, check the "Run actions synchronously" button. Now, click "Text mode" to turn your actions in Javascript.

You'll see 3 functions... each with a message... and the thisthenthat function calling the 3 functions.

The functions have long names, but that's just Alpha doing it's stuff... your function names will be meaningful.

This way... Alpha is teaching you how to use it's functions... and is writing the js code for you.
