initializing field

Hi everyone!

Is there a way on a grid when adding record to initialize a field with a value from another field? i have a form that submit to different tables, with the parent table and the child table having a link fields. i want when submitting it also insert the linked value the child table.

that will be automatic you don't have to do anything. ( if the parent grid has the child grid and they are in the form)

The fields are on the same form. Can you send me a sample code to implement this?

The fields are on the same form. The insertion occurs are the same time, they are not linked with a button.

on your first post you mentioned grid, is this from the detail section of the grid? if so how did you get the fields for the address table?

Am sorry for not responding, i was away for sometimes.

Yes it is from the detail section, and i used SQL Select Statement. from there i joined the tables with join type "left outer join".

you write an xbasic routine to insert the linked content along with the primary inserted for the parent table as a foreign key.

the address table is not inserting.

Are you using the current ALPHA version and build to compile? also can the record be updated using detail view?
