Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

bind argument value to control value? (To use in list control sql query)

    Hey There,

Thank you for taking the time to look. It's appreciated.

I want to set an argument to a control value which really means I can set a list control to be filtered by the value of a combo box.

Following instructions on the list control, all I need to do is set an argument to the control value. See these instructions: filterlist1.png

This I went to do. Then I went to set the argument value filterlist2.png

However, I haven't been able to get it to work.

Any ideas? I haven't found any tutorials on how to do it either so if you find one I would like to view it.

    Thank you

    Jane

You might want to use the search option of the list. Create a dropdown control put it on your page select the search property in the list properties then select the search tab, set the keyword search control to your dropdown control and set the search properties as needed.

      Do this..
      In the UX select Menu,Arguments.
      Click Insert New Argument
Select the type - this need to be the same type as the list is returning Argument Name it lets say we call it ThisValue ( you can use the same name as the dropdown).
When argument Definitions appear click Value
Select the Dropdown you want to filter against
Now back in the list you will have access to the value of the dropdown where some_value_in_the_list = :ThisValue
You may also want to refresh the list component when the dropdown changes, so in the on change of the dropdown refresh the list.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Re: bind argument value to control value? (To use in list control sql query)

Was previously castigated for hijacking thread posts but think adding to this one extends the request/requirements.
I have followed Peteconway's suggestion and realized that something is amiss in the SQL definition.

As explained by Jane1234, on a UX, have a list control and a dropdownbox control which will be used to filter the contents for the list. an extra text control added to trial out this scenario. control name ddbCountryAll, variable created also named the same.
On implementing this I though, what of when you don't have anything selected from the ddb? I would assume that a scenario to have all data displayed might be needed. I looked at the SQL code thus far created and added another variable (in this case a text control with default data set to "Argentina,Germany") that will say hold all likely filter data.

        Code:
SELECT CustomerID, CompanyName, ContactName, ContactTitle, Address, City, Country, Region, PostalCode, Phone, Fax
        FROM customers
        WHERE Country IN ( If( :ddbCountry = '' , :ddbCountryAll, :ddbCountry) )
        [CODE]

The code worked to a point, in that when ddb item is selected, that country's list is shown, but on when no selection is made, the content of ddbCountryAll seems to only work with a single value i.e. Argentina.

Copied the list control to try out a simpler definition of only country in ('Argentina','Germany') this works fine, but if that data is coming from the variable the list doesn't display. tried single quotes, double quotes, no quotes with no joy.

        Code:
SELECT CustomerID, CompanyName, ContactName, ContactTitle, Address, City, Country, Region, PostalCode, Phone, Fax
        FROM customers
        WHERE Country IN (:ddbCountryAll)
        Regards,
