Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Thanks all. I completed moving everything to W10 today. From now on I'll be making changes on the W10 box. So far everything seems normal.

It seems that Windows 10 enabled the IIS service by default, at least I don't recall selecting it to be installed.
Nevertheless, I went into Windows Programs & Features and unselected the IIS services, and the Developer now runs fine.
No other issues noted with Windows 10 so far with AA.

Some of my Windows 10 general observations:
          - can't import Firefox bookmarks to Edge
          - no Aero Glass theme
          - the upgrade went without a hitch, nothing got broken which is a feat in itself
          - the configurable start panel is great
Windows 10 is so far a fantastic OS !
I had a similar issue in V12 after upgrading to Windows 10. When I tried to start the Development Server I would get an error indicating that port 80 was in use.
In Windows 10, I could not find IIS installed under "Programs & Features". However, I've seen IIS referred to as "W3SVC", or the "World Wide Web Publishing Service". Since I wasn't going to be using IIS on my Windows 10 machine, I simply disabled the service called "World Wide Web Publishing Service" and the problem was solved. I would suggest disabling the service rather than uninstalling it because Windows updates may reinstall the service in an active state.

                Re: Windows 10

I am just upgrading to windows 10 using both v11 and v12. I have been able to get the programs to launch run, preview. I however am having one issue that is driving me crazy. I publish to a server using the FTP option and something in windows 10 blocks the publishing. I still have my old box and it publishes fine. I have checked firewall settings and still have no traction on this issue. This is a pain because I have been maintaining files on two systems or copying files between two systems to publish. Does anyone have any help on this?

I think IIS has an FTP service that runs behind the scenes.
In windows 10, IIS may be referred to as "W3SVC".
                  Try to disable
"W3SVC" to see if your Alpha FTP starts working.

                  Good Luck!!!

                    Re: Windows 10

So I just got myself a Dell 13 XPS laptop with Windows 10. I installed Alpha and it seems to work fine, but I am having a terrible time getting a reasonable display setup. No matter what resolution I choose, even on an extended display, Alpha opens in very small type. If I run a Working Preview on a component the type on rendered component is so small it's impossible to read. Some of the control icons also don't render correctly. It's as if there is a different class or style being applied to the development environment. Anyone else run into this, any suggestions.

I read on several websites that the Dell 13 XPS has a lot of display issues and that microsoft actually has a better driver for it. Try searching for display issue with your machine, as I do not think it is an Alpha or a Windows issue, in fact windows may have the FIX.

Thanks Charles.... When I got the machine I had updated the Windows drivers so I thought I had already taken care of that issue but in fact there were new drivers on the Dell site. What made it confusing was that other programs were working OK.
