Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Sort of... You can put a button on the tracker menu that runs the in-line Javascript "close all open windows". That effectively closes all the tabs except the home tab and moves focus back there.
    it runs:
    tbiObj.closeOpenPanes();
    tbiObj.refresh();

      Or try this:

      tbiObj._tbObj.select(0);

          Remember the Tabbed UI is pre the UX - I'm not saying is not a good option desktop BUT you need to consider your investment in time using it if you ever want to migrate to mobile in my view.

            Peter,

            I agree. I've been doing most of my development inside the ux. For my desktop users most of my application are ux components but I'll use a tabbedUI to pull it all together.

                Peter or anyone else looking,

                I load an a5w page that contains a ux with a list control in the Home tab. Is there away to get a pointer to the ux in order to be able to perform a refresh on the list data based on an action in a different ux? Do you know?

                Thanks

                  Yes - get the id of the parent or child and execute the action in the child or parent from the current component. eg: po.runAction('SignOnValues');

                    Re: Can you add a TabUI button that sets focus to the "Home" tab?

                    Slightly off topic:
                    Just to add an alternate opinion - I use a tabbedUI interface, loading my web application. I access it with my PC, my phone and a 7 in tablet through out the day. My tech uses it on his iphone and my customers access it with various devices through out the day as well. I find it fine for mobile use, in fact so far it is the perferred method by users...mostly because my UX loads slowly and isnt anywhere as developed as the tabbedUI - so in all fairness that should be stated.
                    Anyways, I posted a username and a password in the "show off your work" thread if anyone wants to log in and check out how my tabbedUI works on a mobile device.

                    Like I said I think its pretty slick, BUT with the list controls and the tablet optimised forms rolling out - I can guarantee that I will be able to create a much better experience for the end user than the tabbedUI will ever be! I load the Home page first and then a delay for the news page, which is set to auto refresh on load.

                    Completely Off topic:
                    Also, I just wanted to say that Jerry Brightbill and the team at Alpha software are doing an awesome job of support and development of these new tablet optimised forms...for those of you that are not onboard with it yet, I think not only will you be impressed but you will very quickly pick up on it. I am not an Alpha GURU in any sense of the word, however I am already seeing how easily these new controls can be implemented.
