Unless I've missed something, Alpha Anywhere is a mostly web-server based platform, so any changes in an application created using Alpha Anywhere require no "updates" to be deployed since the applications can be accessed from the Alpha Server using any suitable browser like Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, etc. Simply refreshing the browser loads the updated scripts when the "app" is requested from the server.
If a "custom" look is desired, a "chromeless" browser can be installed to prevent the display of window borders, menu bars, etc. providing more screen real-estate to be used by the Alpha "app".
We want to deploy applications with a "custom" look to our fleet of mobile devices (mostly Android Tablets, but also a few iPhones) that allow users to have a full-screen viewing experience, but using A5 default methodology, we would have to create and install a custom, chromeless browser on each device, which would require "hands-on" each device when we need to update the browser.
Using Alpha Anywhere and PhoneGAP, my understanding is that a complete, update-able hybrid app could be created which contains the chromeless browser and any pre-loaded scripts created by A5 that the mobile device needs for off-line functionality, plus any device-native code that PhoneGAP requires for interfacing with sensors, storage, and input devices.
So far, it seems like our only choices for updating PhoneGAP created packages are manual updates using physical connections to the device via USB (Android ADB, but I have no idea if Apple has an analogue to this) one by one, the only automatically way would be by hosting the update on the Play Store (or iTunes, which is not so easy to accomplish).
We were wondering if there is any way to host the updated APK's or IPA's on our local servers and "push" them out to our devices (seems like it should be possible on Rooted Android devices, but I have no idea how to approach the iPhone), much like having a "private" Play Store or iTunes server.
Any advice would be very welcomed!
