Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

It's a visual C redistributable that you may have uninstalled by accident. Try uninstall Alpha & do a FULL install again, alternatively try solutions like https://esha.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/ar...ll-is-missing-

Was wondering if KYBiggs (or anyone else) had success in resolving this issue?

After a year of stability, this issue happened on my a5v12 application server (probably triggered by Windows Update). When I do a full install of old version 2999_4519 it works. But installing more recent updates, or a full install of the current version (2689_4440) give the same problem: "This application failed to start, an important component: mfc120.dll is missing. Reinstalling the application may fix the error."

Re: Alpha Anywhere will not start MFC120.dll is missing

I could be wrong but the way I solved this was to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable - 10.0.40219.
The Alpha install package installs Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable (x86) - 12.0.30501.

The error message is looking for a DLL from the 2010 version. I say the version as the executable to install each has the same name. So I renamed the 2010 executable and then ran it which cured the problem.

The file name is: vcredist_x86.exe this is the 2013 version
I downloaded the 2010 version and renamed the file: vcredist1_x86.exe
          Alpha 5 Version 11
AA Build 2999, Build 4269, Current Build
          DBF's and MySql
Desktop, Web on the Desktop and WEB

Re: Alpha Anywhere will not start MFC120.dll is missing

today, I have the same error so it appears some upgrade by MS windows7 has caused a problem with Alpha Anywhere.

I checked and the file mfc120.dll is STILL in the System32 folder.

I tried to install another MS Visual C++ 2010 and after the install, get another error "a newer version of MS Visual C+++ 2010 redistributable has been detected on this machine" Thus it was NOT installed and I still get the error above about mfc120 missing.

IMO, this is a bug in Alpha Anywhere as it seems to be not compatible with one part of the MS operating system. I would have expected that Alpha Anywhere v12 would NOT be incompatible with window 7 upgrades....

              Hello,

What happens when you reinstall Alpha Anywhere using the full installer - not the patch. Does this resolve the issue?

I went back a couple months and did a restore of a Windows update. The update had to do with Visual C++ 2010 so it appears that 'something" in MS update caused a big problem with Alpha Anywhere. Does this mean that Alpha Anywhere will be getting a PATCH so it is not at odds with Windows?

Did you experience the same issue after doing a reinstall of Alpha Anywhere using the full Alpha Anywhere installer?

Re: Alpha Anywhere will not start MFC120.dll is missing

Fun and games again with windows 10 using Alpha Anywhere v12. Did our standard install. Everything installed fine, no errors BUT when you tried to run our app we get "....mcf120.dll is missing......."

I have seen this before!!!!! So I called in the heavy-duty guys and they found that mcf120.dll was MISSING from the Windows "System32" and the "SysWOW64" folders. On digging further I found in the Alpha Runtime folder a file called "VCRDist_X86.exe". I ran this exe & eureka it installed the "mcf120.dll" in the right folder. In this case the PC was a 64 box so it installed the mcf120 into the "SysWOW64" folder.

I then started the app with no error message. Just make sure that the icon's property in compatibility has the "run this program as administrator" ticked. Cause you are logged in as admin does not necessarily mean that this does not have to be ticked (so says my IT).

My question is WHY doesn't the alpha anywhere runtime install this dll during the install process? Or must we make a change to our app install compiler?

Re: Alpha Anywhere will not start MFC120.dll is missing

To fix the MFC120.dll missing error restoring the missing DLL file from recycle bin and perform a complete SFC scan. If this won’t work for you then download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 file.
You can download this from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=40784
And for 64-bit version of Windows, make sure to install both files: "vcredist_x86.exe" and "vcredist_x64.exe".
