Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Adding SSL to Alpha Server

Have you tried using servername rather than IP address?
Our server ip addresses are not the 192.x.x.x but I am not a network expert, they are set up 10.x.x.x but I don't know why as our it network is managed by a tp.

Re: Adding SSL to Alpha Server

There is a Hosts file in your windows computer where you can map any local domain to an IP and that may be of any help. The file is usually located in this path:
      C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
Be aware that this file is normally protected by the OS because some virus may try to used it in the past, but you can add an entry like this:
      192.168.1.20 MyLocalWebsite
Once you save it, you can browse by https://MyLocalWebsite in that computer and it will be re-directed to the IP you entered in the Hosts file and test if that works for you.

Be aware that the Hosts file have no extension as a file. If you are not familiar with it you can google about hosts file for more detail info.

Also when using SSL, are you self generating a certificate in the AA server or are you using a commercial SSL certificate? if you are using a commercial SSL certificate, you have to use whatever domain name you listed on that certificate, in fact the same applies to your self generated certificate, you have have a domain name like MyLocalWebsite or whatever.

No issues externally though.
Once you use SSL on an Alpha server it wants to be communicated via the SSL cert URL e.g. HTTPS://WWW.MyAlphaRocks.com/Login.a5w

HOWEVER, you can trick your computer operating on a local LAN by adding an entry in the HOSTS file. This must be done for each computer that is inside the network.

I read the article and added the following:

          192.168.12.8 www.mydomain.com

and then saved the file but i can not reach my site. When I tried the example blocking facebook as the article stated, it worked.

Is it important to note that on remote computers if I just type the url in the browser of www.mydomain.com it does not find my site? I have to enter the full name of https://www.mydomain.com or else the browser wont find it?

            UPDATE

It works, I guess I just had to let it think for a bit. And yes, I had to type out https://www.mydomain.com in the browser to get it to work.

              Hi Ivan,

For SSL, yes you always have to type htpps://.

Glad it is working for you. Also thanks to Clint for his post and resources posted on this issue.

You are welcome Ivan, but that is the reason these kind of forums exist with the quality of users of AA products.

I, personally are very thankful for these forums and have received help from many members here and it is always a good feeling when I am able to do the same.

Re: Adding SSL to Alpha Server

So I am having a similar issue that I know is tied to the fact I just added SSL, I can no longer open external pages in tabbed ui panes (these pages are contained on another server we use but it does not have SSL). Is there a way to get around this or does that server now have to have SSL in order to load it within an iFrame? When I turn don safari's debugger it said that the page was blocked because it contained non-secure content. Hoping there is a way to white list this domain somewhere in the SSL properties or a setting within alpha to make it so I can iFrame these pages from this other server, thanks for the help!
