I/O error installing a4v8 on win 7 pro with VM and winxp mode

I have spent way too much time trying to install a4v8 on my dell precision 6500. In the winxp mode when the install cd is put in the setup never comes up in the xp window. I see setup if I go to computer and select the cd drive. When trying to run it from there is when I get the I/O error and it stops at the winagent.exe.
I am able to install on two other dell pc's running xp. These pc's are out the door when I get this resolved.
Does anyone have a solution to this vexing problem ?

I found out my problem. When in win xp mode, I plugged in a usb thumb drive and it was recognized as was my cd drive. I was then able to load a4v8 and it works. No full screen but I can track my old car expenses and print reports.

I was able to get around the full scree problem by using free large DOS font http://www.procon.com.au/HVDOSBox.htm
It's not a full screen, but lets you choose larger fonts, not available with the original Windows.
